Talked to a local performance shop (marylandperfomance.com) and they said going with a head/cam package on a ls1 is dicey. According to them you have a high probabilty of failing emissions!
I know Maryland has fairly tight emissions, but not as bad as california, right? And I see lots of posts from CA people with head/cam setups.
I have been told that my car will pass emissions as long
as I have my cats on. There have been several Forum members
that have HC packages and have passed the test and they
live in California so don't give it a second thought.
JUST DO IT !

Actually the LS1 does suprisingly well with passing emission tests with head/cam changes.
Most of it is in the camshaft selection and PCM tuning. You have to go to a pretty healthy sized 112LSA cam before you have to worry about failing emission testing. Of course you need to keep your cats or you won't stand a chance at passing.
Its all about how much HP you want out of the H/C ... if you want Cartek Z Package numbers ... to will be border line ... but if you go to Mallett ... their H/C Cars sometimes end up cleaner than stock with the correct cam ...
I passed the federal smog sniffer test last month, no problem. The key is to have a moderate cam, with 224 degree or less duration values, and a wide LSA like a 114. :D
