Default Steering lock.

I just got my first corvette, '04 Z06. Love the looks and love driving it. Recently I saw a thread on here about steering lock issues that some have. Since I just got it, I don't know if any recalls have been done or any bypasses installed.
Is it something I should think about, sure don't won't to get stranded couple hundred miles from home with wheel locked.
How common is that problem, any polls, etc?

Thanks for the explanation, I read few threads on it already and YES, column is locked without the key in the ignition. I can hear lock solenoid open when key is turned on.
Is adding CLB or LMC5 absolutly necessary to do?
Last night I checked LMC5. They sell them for $40 on e-bay.

Yes it is necessary to do. A couple of friends of mine both had the column lock up on them within the last two months. Just get it - it's one of the cheapest piece of mind thing you'll do for your C5.
I got mine at http://www.complianceparts.com/

OK, now, which one is better, CLB or LMC5 or are they about the same. I like LMC5 because it's sealed ?

I like the LMC5 because everything you do is in the passenger foot well and you don't necessarily have to undo anything done previously.

Another vote for the LMC5 and Compliance Parts. The efforts that they put forth to resolve issues with locked columns is unsurpassed. Many reports from members here who have called and spent hours with them on the phone to get the column lock problem resolved. Their customer service is renowned here on CF. No problem at all recommending them.
