Let me start by saying that it is so great to deal with a vendor who seems to actually give a S**T. I managed to get the PCM out of my car with help from this forum and sent it Fed Ex overnight last Thursday. First thing Friday morning I get a call from Fast Chips asking about some specifics on my detail sheet. Come Monday afternoon after getting home from work, low and behold there it is!!! Can you beat that for turnaround time??
Initial impressions comparing to my Powerloader. Shift points seem "soft" but this could be caused by the new torque converter as far as I know. Gear kickdown also seems to be not quite as quick as the powerloader was but still responsive.
Anyway, I am extremely pleased with the end result and don't regret using Ed Wright for my programming now. I think in the future I may follow Buckmaster's lead and buy another PCM whenever my reprogrammed Powerloader shows up to do a apples to apples comparison.
For those on the fence about using Ed to do your programming because of having to remove your PCM, I say if I can do it anyone can. No longer do I have to sit pissed and fuming and wait for a re-program that may never show up. Instead I now have a car that I can completely enjoy again with the new mods.
Re: Got PCM back from Ed Wright, impressions within. (C5Rated)
Agree with you 100%, took my car to Ed about 2 months ago, the best money I ever spent. Ed and John at Fastchip
really know there stuff. My car is pretty much stock but felt much faster when Ed was finished. My A4 shifts very hard
you may need to ask Ed about that, my car pitches side ways when it goes into 2nd gear with your foot in it! I try to
tell everybody it should be one of your first mods you do, you won't be sorry! If you ever need to change programming
there is only a small fee required after the intial cost of programming. Car runs cooler, shifts better, has more torque,
and horsepower! PS Ed says he is planning on buying a 2003 corvette to tune on when they come out. :cuss
Re: Got PCM back from Ed Wright, impressions within. (J99FRC)
When I went 2 months ago the basic programming(which took Ed 2 hours and 2 test drives to make sure it was just right)was $450 and then if you change gears or cam or whatever its like $150 after the intial program. He also does dyno tuning not sure how much, best left for mod motors with major changes I think. The best money I have ever spent, car felt like I gained 50 HP although Ed claims probably 20 HP at the rear wheels normal. Hope this helps. PS his web site is http://www.fastchip.com :reddevil
