I noticed the thin black ones I have now are bunched all up behind the calipars in those two curved places? Likely happened when the new Baer rotors where installed. I have seen on here before what seems like chrome ones, that look much better, and a bit thicker anyhow.
What I am talking about is what goes on the back of the brake pad when you slide them into the calipar, and shows. I'm going to get red ZO6 powder coated ones, and wanted to replace this part as well. What is it called, where can I get it?
Re: Brake Pad plate/backing material? (TexCorvette)
Tex, when I recently did my Eradispeeds, I put on the polished SS plates you're referring to. If you're looking for these they're at electro-dynamics.com but be forewarned that they are expensive. They are running a GP now though. I had to grind the little nibs off on the back of the pads so they wouldn't interfere with the plates seating properly on the pads. They look great.
The black backing material you're referring to was intact on my pads. The material apparently is well integrated as part of the pad when new. Didn't seem like a separate component on mine.
Re: Brake Pad plate/backing material? (TexCorvette)
Thanks a bunch! You wouldn't think something so small would be so costly! This the only place that has/makes them?
Yep, I haven't seen anything similar to date. They are very high quality. If you get them you'll see they come with a protective paper backing that you peel off right before you install them. The mirror polish is perfect and the fit is spot on. You need to use an extremely thin coat of adhesive to attach them to the pads. They can easily be transferred to the next set of pads though.
Really give a unique look to the brakes. It's so pretty I almost don't wanna' drive it and get them dirty. Hey, I said almost . . .
Re: Brake Pad plate/backing material? (TexCorvette)
No adhesive. I just used some silicon adhesive and they are very secure. Remember, they're sandwiched between the pad and the caliper and are the same shape as the pad so conform perfectly to the recess in the caliper. They're not going anywhere. :yesnod:
