Default Exhaust paint question

I've put a ZO6 Ti exhaust on my '99 coupe. Enjoy the sound, but some zipperhead painted the tips black. I've sanded with 2000, 800, a Scotchbrite pad, steel wool, and this crap will NOT come off. I've got some of it to come off, but at the rate I'm going, I'll be in a nursing home long before it's clean. My question is, is there a glossier black, or maybe an aluminum color that I can paint these tips? Tired of sanding, and I figure if I can't beat it, join it. I'd just like to have a prettier finish than flat. Don't want to remove the exhaust to do it either, so it'll have to be something sprayable.

Have you ever used aircraft stripper? It will bring off just about anything.Just don't spray it on anything you don't want the paint to come off of!

I thought about using stripper, but to tell the truth, I'm sorta afraid of the fumes removing the paint on the car. Is that being irrational?

I would do it off the car.. you dont want the stripper on anything with paint that needs to stay. another option would to be remove the hangers from the mounts and let the exhaust hang down lower, then mask everything off around them very well. keep in mind if you use the spray kind it may splatter a little and get on anything painted. you can also use a brush on kind or try some paint thiner on some rags in plastic bags and let soak. It would definatly be best to take them off 1st

as for painting them you can use engine block paint (enamel) with a gloss color or a brake caliper paint (lacquer). both will be good with the heat.

If you decide to do it on the car when you unbolt the hanger don't take both bolts out it's a nut plate with the bolts threaded into it and I'm not sure about access to the back side. I agree with the masking with heavy plastic you can buy at Home Depot so the stripper doesn't get anywhere near the paint.
