Well I was coming home from dinner last night with a buddy. I wanted to show him what the car felt like from a 1st gear roll, so going about 20-25mph I floored it. :smash:
The vette took off great and was definitely feeling strong. When the car went to shift from first to second, It went BANG... and the rpms hit the rev. limiter.:confused: Damn Nittos.
OOOOO you can imagine the feeling.. :eek:
Well heres what I know now.. I can manually put the trans in 1st gear and take off. Once I get started the car does shift and the convertor still locks up at highway speeds. If i'm in 3rd or 4th and come to a stop, I'm stuck the motor just free revs, until I put it back in 1st or 2nd. (Shifting)The trans will not shift hard and the rpm's do rev. up a little more freely..
Was the tranny the ARE upgrade? The reason I ask is, I took my engine back to ARE Tuesday to get it repaired, along with a Tranny to upgrade.
If the Tranny is stock that was bound to happen. I have to take out the Yank Tranny B/C it won't hold the Nitrous. It does fine on N/A. Wade said you were comming in for more Mods. Good Luck.

Looks like your 3rd and 4th gear clutch packs are toast. Been there, done that, now FLP Level 4 Tranny for me and i'm all :D! Time to call Chuck Johnson at FLP!

Just as a sideline to this, the design of the 4L60-e automatic transmission, was to brake internally, before exploding outwardly.
This is designed intot the transmission.
Also, if you have lost only the 3/4 clutch package, this is not a major thing, however, you state you were rolling along in first gear when it happened, and then lost it.
Personally, the sunshell may have snapped.
Oh, also, if rebuilt correctly, a 4l60 will handle your power.

This was a ARE built tranny.. but I do know that it has been throwing codes ever since I got it back..
Even with the ET streets it would chirp 1-2 gear shifts. It seems like when the shift from 1-2 happened the tires just hooked and the trans gave way..
I'm working out arrangements for the car to be taken back to ARE tomorrow. Well we will just have to see.. I'm sure that Nick will be shocked and will have no problem fixing any problems..
Sorry to hear about the transmission,I'm surprised it failed so soon since ARE beefed it up to handle the extra power,how many times did you hit it with the 250 shot?Hope you get it fixed soon.
I have only hit the 250 shot once, and that was when I first got the car back. (With Nick)
I wanted to play with it on motor and with the nittos. I am unable to hit the n2o, as it just smokes the tires. I figured the n2o runs would come in due time. I just cant believe that the trans broke after 2 months... I should have just left it stock, as I never had a problem with the old stroker motor and stock trans..
