Default Charging questions

I had a 2000 frc, dash says 10.9 volts, battery reads 11.5. Alt out put is 14.5 at idle. Yes i have read all the threads and am getting a new ign switch, but i would like to know what the symptoms would be if 1 or both of the fusible links that go to the starter went out? How are they checked from above? It has always started fine, i have long tubes, and i have not seen a charging issue scroll across the screen. Also i have read running a cable from the alternator directly to the battery isnt good for the computer? Is this true? Thanks all

There are 2 wires that go from the alternator to the solenoid on the starter with fusible links at the starter. The heavier wire likely has an issue. Try a jumper cable between the main post on the back of the alternator and the battery positive terminal and see if everything works better.

Jump from the big red thick wire from the alt to the battery? isn't that what the big 3 wire repair kit is? besides adding a ground? Hers a crazy question, why do they run a power charging wire from the alternator to the starter? thx for your response.

The starter solenoid + connector is just a junction point. The alternator wire is simply connecting to the battery via the battery cable. Old style GM battery replacement cables were manufactured with a piggyback wire attached. Ford used to make this connection on the line side of the fender mounted starter solenoid. Now a days I think everyone has moved the connection and the solenoid down to the starter.

Just my 2 cents.
