Sounds like your not even SURE what happened. Turn it on and watch closely. You need to do some more investigating before you decide it it an ac leak. If it is leaking that bad the air would not be cold and the compressor would not even come on.

It could be, if you are losing refrigerant oil, that means you are also losing refrigerant, the compressor clutch will still engage the compressor as long as the pressure does not fall low enough to keep the low pressure switch from cutting out.

I'm not a auto A/C mechanic(I do houses and buildings), I believe the switch I describe is a trinary switch on cars.

I guess the best thing is have a shop look at it, I just don't like to assume the compressor is bad yet, what if there is no leak, the refrigerant pressures are right on, then you could rule out it being the A/C.

If there was a leak, it could still be external to the compressor where the hoses mount.

I guess you did not recently change your oil, or have it changed, if so it's possible a drop of new oil got on the header.

I guess the next thing to do is get it checked out by a good shop, I would just tell them what happened that day, if you tell them you think the compressor is bad they might just go "ok, lets put on a new compressor"

Thanks for your input, Will do and take my time to go over again.

I've been canyon driving (~200 miles) since the day I witness the smoke coming from A/C comp. but it's fine right now, (Didn't engage the compressor since..)

I will go over again and try to find out.

Thanks yall!!

Keep us posted, changing out the A/C compressor is a big job, the water pump has to come out and you need the right A/C tools. I bought the gauge set and vacuum pump form Harbor Freight and did it myself but it took me a whole weekend. The manifold bolt behind the compressor is a pain to get to, I ended up buying a 13 mm swivel socket and getting to it from underneath with extensions.

But now my A/C is nice and cool. :-)

I still haven't really address this issue yet, since the car is running fine and no more smoke, but now I'm noticing some noise coming from A/C compressor area when car is on. (compressor not engaged, but still turns because the pully belt turning)

So I was thinking about taking off the A/C pulley belt so Compressor does not spin at all untill I have some money to fix.

I couldn't find any ac special mechanics around LA area... anyone know???
