I have a small video clip for review. The sounds only occur when I first start the car in the morning, after driving for about 5 minutes they disappear. There is a squeak and then a very noticeable knocking sound. This is a 2000 LS1 with 51,570 miles. If anyone can identify the sounds and/or has any suggestions on how to correct, I would appreciate the advice. Thanks Here is a link to YT where I posted it.
Take the belt off and start the car. See if the noise goes away. My guess is one of the idler pulleys is worn out. Very common on our cars. While the belt is off, spin the pulleys by hand. If they're free wheeling, they're worn out. They should have a small amount of tension on them. They'll turn slowly if they're in good shape. This check will take you less than 5 minutes total. All you need is a rachet and 15mm socket.
