Default A.I.R. Smog pump replacement

I brought my 2000 convertible to my mechanic (dealer mechanic that does work on the side) and he found that I need to change the A.I.R. smog air pump. He wanted $400 labor to do the job but that sounds like a lot. He says that the unit is located under the headlight on the drivers side. I have found whole assemblies for around $250 and just the pump (use existing housing) for around $140. My question is how hard is it to change this pump? I have searched everything I can find and can't find a video or photo (or even written instructions) on the step by step procedure of this project. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I might be willing to give this a try myself.
Thanks,

Just have it tuned out, honestly. You don't need it (unless you live in an emissions controlled city/county)

Default Go For It

New GM part # 12568382 $177.45 @ gmpartseastdotcom
" " " ................. $163.40 @ gmparsdirectdotcom

New AC Delco part# 215-426 $87.79 @ Rockautodotcom (Wholesaler closeout - normally $148.79)
New ACDelco part#215-426 $146.50 @ amazondotcom

New Standard Motor Products part # AIP14 $156.79 @ Rockautodotcom

That price for new Delco at the Rock is outstanding.

Cliffs: Get car off ground, remove LF wheel, remove lower close-out panel. Check for access. If more is needed, remove LF wheelhouse (inner fender panel). Decent access after that. No special tools.

Just unbolting, removing rubber hoses, etc and mounting new pump to existing mounting bracket. Electrical connector unplug/re-plug

Btw, $400 for labor is high.

I agree. I almost stripped the rear drivers side spark plug hole because of that stupid air pump and its hoses being in the way. The air pump is coming out! I can either burn it or you can have it Crause

Thanks everyone! I can't believe that guy was going to charge me $400 for something that easy. Won't trust him again. I caught a close out deal on rock auto and pump was only $90. I am going to cut out all of those ground blocks and put wires in soldered ring connector with heat shrink. Hopefully that will take care of other gremlins.
