Default Oxygen sensor plugs

My car is a 2004 convertible. I had to change out some exhaust parts to correct some screwups from previous owners. I removed only the rear oxygen sensors as part of the changeout.

When I put the left side sensor back in, I found that the cable was about 4 inches too short to connect to the plug. (Note: the bungs were farther forward on the exhaust I removed, so the cable reached the plug.)

On the right side, the cable reached the plug perfectly. I noticed that on the right side, the rear O2 sensor was connected to the lowest plug, and the right front O2 sensor was connected to the upper plug.

However, on the left side, the front O2 sensor was plugged into the lower plug, and the rear O2 sensor had been plugged into the upper plug. The left rear O2 cable would reach the lower plug just fine.

I suspect a previous owner swapped the left side front/rear O2 sensor plugs, and I need to reverse them.

Can anyone confirm that the left side LOWER plug should connect to the REAR O2 sensor?

Note: I have been getting an intermittent check engine code. The code would appear if I sat idling in traffic for a long period of time after driving for a long distance on the highway. I can't remember the number, but I looked it up and it was related to the left side rear O2 sensor being out of acceptable range.

Thanks

Are you throwing a code? if they are backwards they should have a code on the DIC. i would check to see, it may be showing a code without clicking on the CEL. I dont recall what plug was what, sorry i can be of more help there.

New information: I have spent a lot of time on the internet looking for the answer. It appears that the O2 sensor plugged into the drivers side pipe should be wired to the passenger side connector plug. My car was not this way, ie. on my car the drivers side O2 sensor was connected to the drivers side connector plug.

If I swap them, it will be critical that the front sensor be plugged into the correct connector, as the front O2 sensor is what is monitored for controlling the fuel.

A lot of the posts I looked at talked about the front sensor plug being flat, and the rear being square. On my car both the front and rear plugs look the same. Was this a design change in the 2004?

I figured out the answer: The front and rear O2 sensors have opposite gender plugs, so it is not possible to accidentally swap front and rear.

I connected the drivers side sensor to passenger side plug, and passenger side sensor to drivers side plug, and the cables fit fine.

Default o2 sensor connectors location help!

I had to drop my LT header/exhaust to replace starter. In the process i snapped the o2 sensor wires, but i can't find the pigtail connectors. The wires seem to go in the chassis. Since i got the exhaust dropped i decided to replace them. But cant find the pin connector.

im new so please excuse my asking this question.
