I have it in my 01. Drivability isn't horrible but it's really all in the tune. It's a little soggy below 3500 but I have an ss3600 so it doesn't bother me a whole lot

The highlighted info tells me you don't need to run the MS3 cam. Aside from what internet marketing will have you believe, it's not a very smooth driving cam at low rpm's and will be extremely sluggish down low in a stock geared C5. TQ below 3500 will be very soggy and low rpm crawls through parking lots and such will be annoying, even with good tuning. Fueling / timing / air calibrations can smooth a lot of it out but tuning can't fix lack of vacuum.

Something like a 228/232 or 230/234 on good lobes with ~11.5:1 compression will make gobs of midrange power and still pull nicely to 6600+ rpm's. Midrange power is what you want for a fun street car. A car that's a turd below 4K will not be enjoyable to drive on the street, I can guarantee it. TORQUE moves the vehicle. Cylinder pressure builds torque. Huge cams do not build cylinder pressure.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

I ran the MS3 on a 114LSA on my 346 with ported LS6 heads and ported FAST intake and tb. DCR was 7.7:1 and low end was , mid range was a bit soft, but top end was . It's was a cam that loved rpms, but it didn't fit my driving style, which was daily driving at the time. My car felt heavy driving around town and wasn't too much fun because of the lack of vaccum.

I contacted Pat G and let him know that I wanted midrange. He spec'd me a custom cam that had a smaller intake and exhaust duration, a smidge less lift and cut on a 111LSA that produced 2* more overlap than the off the shelf MS3 cam. HUGE Difference as my DCR is now 8.3:1 and it make MUCH MUCH more torque low/mid than what my old MS3 made. Top end feels the same as the MS3, maybe a bit stronger. From a 60 hit, it hits much harder than it did with the MS3 and off the line, it's a night and day difference.

Don't go the MS3 route unless you do gears.

I have had mine for over 5 yrs as my dd/track car. If I had it to do over again, I would probably go a different route with cam, but at the time, it was what I went with. I have no dd issues with it once it got tuned properly and that is the key. It make more power than my slicks can handle during corner exit, but it runs strong. I would suggest talking to whomever is going to tune it, and find out what he suggests to match your other/future mods. Good luck with it and post up what you went with.

I never had a ms3 but rode/drove 2 and they are great up top but suck down low if it's DD I say choose differently. The cams today compared to a ms3 is like a dvd player vs a bluray..Talk with Arun and have you spec a cam out. I'm not a fan of off the shelf cam.

I have a recently installed MS3. I think the tune makes a pretty big difference. I have a lot of confidence in my tuner, and it's a DD'able cam. My biggest complaint is the smell. I wasn't expecting it to smell quite as strong as it does. Other than that, I'm 100% happy with my choice.

I agree with everyone above, the tune makes or breaks the enjoyment you'll get out of the cam. Your tuners ability to tame the cam means aot.

I don't even know where to start with that one... A DVD player and a Blu-ray? WTF

@OP

I've installed an MS3 and tuned two of 'em. Neither of those owners complained lacking of low end torque. Granted, it was hard to get the perma-grin off their face after spinning it to redline for the first time.

Off the shelf cams are *proven* performers for 346 CI engines on stock heads and many popular aftermarket. The PRC 227 heads and 3800 converter are well matched for the power band of the MS3. You seem to already be familiar with TSP... I think they are plenty qualified to help you with your cam selections. Give 'em a call.

With a tune, it isn't a make or break with a 346ci and MS3. The gearing is the make or break factor.

That's an opinion that we don't share. The MN12 and 3.42 ring are plenty enough gear for that camshaft. Both in WOT shift extension and cruising speeds.

We're on 2 different pages. I was speaking in terms of the MN6 and 3.42 ring. Which is not an idea combo for that cam.

The MN12 and 3.42 is better suited for the MS3, not ideal, but better suited. The MN12 and G5X3 , if we're talking about off the shelf cams.
