Just wondering if its true that if I get the Hypertech PPIII and get 3.42s that the Hypertech will have an option for them?
I read in some posts that it will make the DIC throw codes and other stuff and not be correctly set-up for 3.42s
Is this true because I either want a Powerloader or Hypertech but dont feel like waiting for a powerloader.

Call Superchips. :yesnod: They will build you a good program thats removable and upgradable. Best bang for the buck. Program will be set up for your gears as well as any other mod you have in the car. Only takes about 10 days. IM me and I will give you any info you need.
It did NOT work for me. Hypertech sold me a product they claimed would work. The instruction booklet says it works. When I did the install and found that it does not work, I called Hypertech.... Thats when they told me they know it WILL NOT change to 3.42 and told me to bad on a refund for a product they know will not work. :mad :mad :mad
As far as I'n concerned, Hypertech is Full of poopie !!!
90 droptop....who would you recommend to go with then?
I'm concerned with waiting 2-4 months for a Powerloader and sending it back everytime I get something new.
Same thing with Ed Wright-wait is a lot less but I gotta send the whole computer.
SuperChips, Hypertech, and PowerLoader are the only aftermarket hand-held programming units I'm aware of.
I like LS1-Edit a lot and doing a gear change is very easy to do, not so much "tuning wisdom" required for that. There are some issues though, email me if you're interested in the details. This option makes the most sense if you like to tinker and believe you'll require more than one tune as the cost (of both purchase and learning) is amortized over subsequent usages.
If down time is the issue on pulling your PCM, you can probably work out a core exchange arrangement with Ed and minimize down time. Not easily reversible, but neither is the PL.
When you order a program you fill out a form of all your mods. Program is then built for your specific car. I don't know how they do this but, the tuning is done off the latest GM programming for your car. This is verified thru the VIN number. My car was actually de tuned by GM for the spark knock issue some cars experience. (Superchips found this info. as my car DOES NOT GO TO THE DEALER) Anyway they built the program from GM's latest specs. NOT the specs the car was built with. Way to much techie stuff for me to understand. Anyway love it and did'nt have to wait six months for a custom program. Only takes 3 min. to install!!!!! :D
My HPPIII worked for 2.73 to 3.42 gear change on a '98. I may go LS1Edit after H&C or SC in about 3 weeks if I can find some guys in Sac to go in on a locked version with me. Apparently my Hypertech is a very special unit, but I'll let it go for the regular used price. Email if interested.
I have already ordered LS1edit and would be happy to split the cost with other folks in Sac. It should ship in about a week. If we can find two other folks, the net cost will be about $215.00/VIN.
2000 LS1 Hypertech does not work with 3:15 - 3.42. I upgraded to 3.42's and my programmer did not compensate for the gear change. I had to have it programmed with LS1 edit via Cartek. Fotunately I was able to accept the cost of the tuning because I did a head/cam package too.
Stu, do you have access to AutoTap or another scan tool? If so would you be willing to collect some data? (Current Gear, Engine Speed, Vehicle Speed, TCC Slip Speed, Trans Input Shaft Speed, and Trans Output Shaft Speed.) It seems to bother you that the majority of users have found that their HPP3 won't help them with a gear swap. It would be helpful if we could verify if yours actually does so correctly and if so capture the firmware revision. That would be usefully specific.
if you have the 3.15 from the factory, you probably won't have to reprog with a 3.42 upgrade (you didn't say anything about replacing the torque convertor).
Its only a 8.6% change and that keeps things within the 3.15 factory programs acceptable limits. If you go to a higher stall TC as well, then that combination may be too muc of a change, where you would need to reprog.
I myself upgraded from 3.15's to 3.42's and did not have to reprog.
