Installed Vararam and it is sticking up too high against my hood. It rises about an 1" to 1 1/2" above my radiator shroud and I'm wondering where to go to adjust it. I'm using the LAPD Powerduct and SLP maf. I could cut the rubber boot between the duct and tb, but I was curious if there is a better solution. Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?
How did you space out the scoops from the nose? Is the MAS side of the airbox bending towards the hood or the shroud? I'm thinking that the airbox may be upside down.
If you need any more help let me know. I've installed more than one of these kits.
I had a little of the same problem. I spaced out the inlets at the top which causes the air box to drop down. A little adjustment at the inlet makes a pretty significant change at the air box. I also cut a little off of the rubber boot to help bring the air box forward. I have an after market air duct.
I recently switched to the Vararam, as well, and had EXACTLY the same problem. Mine stuck up so high, I had to practically force the hood to close. I knew that it wasn't right, as the MAF and power duct didn't 'mate' correctly and naturally, either.
I went back under the nose of the car, and I removed all the washers from the scoop mounting posts, and tried it again. Presto! The whole unit lines up like a champ, and it now fits like a glove. After going through the trouble to install this thing, I was pretty PO'ed that it didn't line up well by following the instructions. I used the proper # of washers, etc., and it didn't line up at all. After speaking with Patrick from Vararam, he told me that the instructions should really be taken as approximate and not exact, because he's seen several cars of the same model year that require different #'s of washers to create the proper install ange.
When you have it right, the MAF and the power duct will almost 'slide' together and the powerduct will lay right over top the radiator support just like the stock one does. I've got the plastic LAPD power duct so it will go together... just got to get it lined up right.
Like C5Cemo mentioned, having the box upside down can do it, as well. Patrick mentioned that to me on the phone as well. Just make sure the hole for the AIR pump hose is in the upper left-hand side and you should be ok.
I had the same problem with my Vararam system.
We had to remove the washers from the bottom mounts to allow the duct to drop into position. We also had to trim the air filter box cover by about an inch. You can use a pair of right or left tin snips. Both of these adjustments allowed the stock snorkel to almost rest exactly in place. THE CUT NEEDS TO BE MADE ON THE ROUND END AND A BELLOWS KIT FOR THE SLP MUST BE USED. Good luck. If I can help contact me.
Was thinkin about maybe goin with one of these, but for that kind of money, you might expect it to be engineered to fit like a glove without having to cut up anything. Think I will wait and see on this. Thanks for your honest experience post.
Since there are several suppliers for the front bumper, Patrick suggested installing the system then adding washers. The directions say to remove the fan shroud when they mean the radiator shroud should be removed. I added a small support bar under the front frame to push up on the two air ducts and take the load off the plastic front end.
