A very similar thing happened to me last week. I drove my car aprox 10 miles and parked it. When I returned aprox 1 hr later, I went to start the car and NOTHING!! Not even a "click" from the starter. I checked everything I could think of and after 10 minutes I tried again and this time it started like nothing had happened. I took the car directly to my buddy that happens to be the service manager at my local dealer. They changed out the ignition switch that includes the sensor for the theft det system.
The car now starts right up just like usual. If you have checked everything else and it appears that you have, see if you can get a new ignition switch installed.
BlkFRC,
My neigbor's Caddy had a no start condition recently, similar to the one discussed in this thread.
The dealership replaced the ignition switch as in your case, nailed him for $400 and he was good to go.
Hard to know if that is WannaBe TT!'s problem, but the symptoms seem to be the same.
Well, here's the update: i took the ignition switch out.. played with it a little. Then I put it back in and the car started maybe 3 or 4 times when i fiddled with the key and kinda 'pushed' in the key cylinder. I pulled out the passenger floorboard and can hear the starter relaying kicking every time i turn the key to the on position. The car doesn't seem to want to start again though. I also got a new check engine code... P 1626 H C . My guess is that it's in the ignition switch or key cylinder since moving the key around got it to start.... but i don't fully understand the way the system works. I appreciate all the forum's help and hopefully we'll get my baby back on the road where she belongs.
Re: Car still won't start.... update. (WannaBe TT!)
The BCM grounds the starter relay (theft deterent relay) which sends juice to the starter. In order for the BCM to ground the relay,it has to detect the proper key resistance input from the ignition cylinder. You may have some worn contacts in the cylinder that are not making contact with the key, resulting in the 1626 code...I would replace the ignition cylinder.A new one will have to be coded to your key cut, with your original key being used...
i'm going to go ahead and order the ignition switch and cylinder tomorrow. I'm guessing the parts will take 1-3 days to come in ... i'll keep you guys updated. Also, does the chevy dealer need my car to code the ignition cylinder to my keys or just the key? (am i gonna have to leave my car at the dealer?)
Re: Car still won't start.... update. (WannaBe TT!)
NJVetteGuy and I spoke online and he asked me if i was getting AC condensate dripping on the passenger floorboard... and it did it for the first time the morning that the car stopped working. So i took out the passenger floorboard and found things to be WET! I'm guessing this is my problem. Water got into the BCM and just caused havoc. I took the connectors off the BCM and they were also wet. Can i remove the BCM from the car so that i can dry it off as well as possible? I didn't see any nuts holding it down but it seems attached from the rear. Thanks.
