shifter rattle, advanced suggestions?
I cut down a stock shifter according to this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=254845. Here's a picture from that thread as to the final product: 
I am very pleased with the shifting, but I can't stop it from rattling at about 2,500RPM upward.
Per past threads, today I added considerable weight to it. What I did was obtain a piece of steel pipe having an inner diameter big enough to go around the larger cylindrical portion shown in the picture, and between the two I have sandwiched in place (with hose clips) some rubber from a piece of rubber hose. The rattling diminished some, but is still there.
When it rattles, if I apply pressure sideways to the **** or shaft, the rattling ceases. So, it's almost as if something is not as tight as it needs to be, but I can't figure out what that is. I drove it without the shift **** and it still rattles then too.
Any suggestions beyond just adding more weight would be greatly appreciated. :confused: :cheers:

TRY SCREWING THE **** DOWN AS FAR AS POSSIBLE. SOMETIMES IF YOU LEAVE SOME THREADS BARE, THE **** CAN MOVE FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE. THAT'S WHAT I FOUND IN MY SET-UP. I ALSO PUT SOME HEAT-SOUND DEADENING MATERIAL IN THAT AREA. HOPE THAT HELPS, GOOD LUCK! :seeya :seeya :seeya
