we were driving down the street doing about 60mph, all the sudden a "system charge fault" appeared on the DIC.
drove about a half mile and looked at DIC and it read "Coolant over temp" or something to that effect. Looked at the temp gauge and it was maxed. I immediatly turned the car off and opened the hood. as I approached the hood I saw coolant spilling on the ground. Then I found the serpantine belt had popped off. The belt was fine, just somehow came off.
I put it back on and all seems fine, but just wondering how and why it did this.
Keep an eye on your belt for the next few days... The same thing happened to me. It came off one day, fine the next and then it just started to come off, all the time. It turned out to be the tensioner starting to split causing the pulley to angle a bit. Since replacing the tensioner, no probs ever since.
I just emailed katech about thier tensioner. They have some sort of solid version and from what I get the belt has been jumping off of h/c cars. I dont know if it is because of the fast ramp on the rpms or what. But I wanted to check into this before I start on my heads tommorow.
I remember reading somewhere ???? that this was a common problem with the first couple years of the LS1.... and that a pulley was reworked to keep the belt on track.
I haven't had problems with the belt coming off, but I have a pulley that likes to squeek a lot. Just replaced both belts, it stopped for a couple of days, and then started again. Any ideas?
Wow, that's pretty scary! My tensioner makes kind of a funny noise when the car is stopped in gear with my foot on the brake. It quits whenever I shift it into park or neutral. No problems with the belt so far, hope it doesn't fall off!! How hard was it to put back on???
