Default Help !! Window blow out

02 Vette conv.
At 80 mph my drivers side window moves outward causing a wisling sound I have noticed that the window clip on the passenger side is much closer to the window than the drivers side. went back to the dealer to have it fixed or adjusted but they told me they don't know how.
How can I move that clip or fix this problem. Thanks !! :boxing

Hi! and welcome to the Forum. There IS a window tip-in adjustment that you can find by doing a search. DO NOT try to fix the problem by simply pushing in on the window clip. The Corvette Shop Manual details the proceedure too, and any Chev. dealer SHOULD have the ability to fix it. I will e-mail you if I can find it. Good luck. :)

Al,

I also had the window blow out at 80 mph on the passenger side. I did the window tip in as much as was possible and that eliminated the blowout up to 100 mph. I did bend the blowout clip down with a crescent wrench and it seems to have solved the problem so far. I never had any problem on the driver's side which came from the factory with the blowout clip bent close tot he window. I hope this helps.

The blow-out clip, if properly positioned, should keep the window from blowing out. If you have window-blowing-out-problem then you should first adjust the blow-out clip, not tip the window in tighter against the weather stripping. But in the end you might end up doing both.

I have details with pictures on my site of how to do both procedures.

At http://www.johndennington.com "Visit My Corvette Site" then go to the "How To's" section.

Good Luck.

Man tell them to check the service manual, I had this problem a few years back and had them replace the moldings and clamp the windows down. Unfortunately, they still blow out at 150mph. In a way its good because I don't have to look down at the speedo to know that I am over 150! Porsche has little servo arms that push the bottom of the windows out, thus pushing the tops harder against the weatherstripping...but who wants to pay $30K more dollars for that? A vacuum is formed at high speeds that suck the windows out away from the normal resting postion. The dealership should be able to correct it. Remember to tell them it happens around 65-70 mph. I say this because they might try telling you they can only fix something that happens at normal freeway operating speeds...largely because this is what they are supposed to road test it at or that they can't drive over the legal speed limit...dealership depending.

I too had the wind noise at higher speeds and it was from the side windows being pushed out from the weatherstrip. If you raise the hatch and reach around the pillar, try pushing out on the top rear corner of the window to see if the glass moves away from the weatherstrip creating a gap, which will result in wind noise you hear. As you go faster, the air pressure builds up on the inside of the car while the air on the outside is being blasted around the windshield and crating a lower pressure area on the outside of the side windows. The two together will push the side windows out. Some forum members have adjusted the tip-in with some success, but if you get this over done, you may damage the weatherstrips when you roll the windows up and down. I would suggest correcting the problem with the blow-out clips. Originally on 97’s and early 98’s, the blow-out clip was positioned on the front or first screw of the weatherstrip retainer. Sometime in 98 they started putting the clip on the second screw of this strip. I have moved the blow out clip to the third screw and have adjusted it (bent it) down near the glass so only a sheet of paper will slide behind it when the window is up. Compare the position of my blow-out clip in the picture to where your blow-out clip is located.

There are four screws that hold the weatherstrip retainer in place and the clip can be located on any one of them. I have had no wind noise since I have done this and the glass will not touch the clip when you open and close the door if the glass is properly positioned. You can do this yourself if you pay great attention to detail. The biggest risk is ending up with leaks because you don’t get the retainer or weatherstrip sealed properly to the top. After the dealer worked on mine twice, while I watched him, I took it home and sealed the weatherstrip properly, haven’t had any leaks or wind noise for the last 30,000 miles.

Good Luck with what you decide to do.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this and see how it works.

Check the shop manual, of course, but as I recall from the factory tour, they 'adjust' the clip with a rubber mallet.
