Default 2001 C5 Re-calls

New to the Corvette world. How can I verify if the recalls against my car have been accomplished???? 2001 C5, convertible.

If you go to a GM dealer and ask if there are any recalls on your car ,they will tell you which ones were done and if there are any that were not done yet.

Is there a list of recalls somewhere? I have owned my 2001 since new and have never received a recall notice. Would be interesting to see if GM failed to send it or not.

Keep in mind that any recall of the car could have been performed by the dealer if you ever had the car back to the dealer for anything including a simple thing like an oil change. While most dealers will tell you that they performed a recall, they don't have to tell you anything.

You can get a copy of the GMVIS for the car by sending an email, with your VIN and asking them to email it back, to either of the following two Forum Supporting vendors:

dfichtner@fichtnerchevrolet.com Dennis Fichtner

gene@gmpartshouse.com Gene Culley

Some dealers will give you a printed copy as a courtesy while others feel that it is their duty to fleece you for anything that pertains to your car.

I'll have to get in touch with Gene. I, too, am an original owner, and in the 12 years I've owned the car, it was only back to the dealer once...

OK, did the VIN number check and it says there are no active recalls for my vehicle. It is a 2001 manual. I have never been advised on any work on the column lock, Nor is it listed on any of the paperwork I have from the dealer since new, so I guess I'll try to get a copy of the GMVIS.

Maybe this would be a good time to do the CLB column lock bypass
that disables the column lock and keeps the BCM from throwing a code.
It's only 40-50.00.
You don't want to get stranded and have to have the car towed to a dealer
as this seems to be a common problem that happens eventually.
It's pretty easy to do.

It's not something the dealer does.

I have the kit already, but haven't gotten around to doing it. Guess I'd bet get it done.
