this weekend we upgraded the tpms system to 2001-04 with the kit supplied by gmpartshouse.com. the install was fairly straight forward but i would like to clarify a few points to help those that do the install. first, the receiver in a 99 vert is located on the drivers side just rearward of the rear speaker in a small plastic panel. second, the replacement looks a lot different than the original. the original has two 8 in. long legs protruding from each side (one on each end) which are the antenna and the new one just has two short metal wings. by the way, the new one has a much better range. third, gene provides splices for the electrical connection but my installer opted for soldering. he forgot to detach the battery before soldering so if you did the same and you happen to try to learn the fobs or the tps you will not be able to proceed past the original train fobs message until you replace the 10A mini fuse 27 located in the pside kick panel! it all worked great after that! a forgivable error but thank God for fuses! the links provided on this forum for wiring were perfect just bear in mind that the new receiver wiring is from the car end looking at (or plugged in to) the receiver.
lastly, i have a 99 reciever, 4 tps, and 2 fobs for sale but i have no idea what they are worth. if anyone is interested, pm me. two of the tps are within 5 years old and the other 2 are over 5 years old. i was getting a tps message on the dic so one of them is probably bad, the only problem is i do not know which one so i will only charge for two of them but you can have all of them. the fobs are worn but have new batteries in them and both worked before the conversion. the receiver works fine and includes the car end plug.
as far as the kit from gene cully, it was a no brainer if you happen to have $440 to spare. wasn't too bad to install, contained all of the necessary parts, price is fair and shipping was fast. thanks gene!
