remotes stop working continually need to be reset
For about the past month my remote doesnt seem to work more than a few days at a time. when it stops working I have do a reset (hold both lock and unlock) till the car beeps then they work. The car has been fine otherwise except a tire sensor that stopped reading but it has been fine since being reset. Any thoughts ? I checked battery readouts both stopped and started and they seemed normal. :seeya

Hi there,
I would check for codes in the DIC for the RFA, which is the last module displayed.
Let us know what you have, but for the most part, if you constantly have to reset your transmitters, you will most likely need an RFA module.

I would check for codes in the DIC for the RFA, which is the last module displayed.
Let us know what you have, but for the most part, if you constantly have to reset your transmitters, you will most likely need an RFA module.

Mine did the same thing for about a month before my battery died and leaked acid. It has not happened in the last 10 months with the new battery. You may want to check for a weak battery or a leaky positive terminal.

Jeff how old was yours at the time ? I checked the battery it looks clean as could be and there is no visable leakage on the posts. I guess the hext step is to pull the battery and remove the foam and check the tray.Jeff were you receinving low voltage readings from your battery before it leaked? :confused:

The battery was my second one and was put in under warranty due to the first one dying very early. The battery was just over 2 years old when I noticed it leaking acid. The leak started off as a small amount of corrosion on the positive terminal and at this time was when I was having issues with the remote. A week or 2 later I replaced the battery with an optima and have not had any more trouble with the remote. When replacing the battery I had to pull the PCM to clean the mess, the leak was a stealth leak and was hard to tell the magnitude of it until the battery was out.
I would pull your positive terminal and check for any signs of leakage or corrosion. Also, are you on your original battery? If so it could be running weak and about to die anyway so replacing it will keep you from getting stranded. It may be worth seeing if a new battery fixes your problem before replacing the transmitter if you battery is near the end of its anticipated life.
Before the battery leaked badly I did not see any noticeable drops in voltage, but there were many wierd electrical problems including seat memory issues, losing presets in radio, random codes getting thrown, etc. all of these issues disappeared with the new battery.

I've got one remote that remembers and one that quickly forgets. Both have new batteries. ?????
...........My car battery is fairly new, but since I have tried everything else, I think I'll give that a shot.

looks like I pick a battery soon, don't want to get stranded. IT looks very clean and the posts are secure and not leaking that I can see, I just hope when I pull it there isn't leakage underneath. so now for the question... what bat to go with... I think Optima is overpriced, who else makes AGM batteries ?

Someone told me this one time. I haven't verified it, but I'll throw it out there.
I was told that since the transmitters use rotating codes, if you press the buttons too many times without being in range of the car, the codes will become mismatched, and you'll have to re-associate the remotes with the car. I don't know how many times is "too many". If you have children that play with the remotes or if the buttons get pressed while they're in your pocket, this problem might be seen.

I had the same thing happen to me, it was the remote.
Here is a pic of the inside of the FOB. On mine the resistor on the top right numbered 032.7E7 was loose. It makes 4 connection to the fob and 2 were still connected. So as an easy fix I put some folded up paper on top and closed the fob back to fold it in place. When this resistor looses connection, you have to reprogram.
If your fob is not under warranty then this will work, if this is what the problem turns out to be.

Thanks for the info motoracer. I've tried a bunch of things but it still kept malfunctioning on me. Hopefully, this will fix it.
