Bought my 1st Vette in June this year, Great car. I enjoy it on road and track. After a 25 minute session on a road course the cars temp gets up to 240 to 250 range.I bought some water wetter, a red looking liquid to put in radiator. A friend told me not to as it might eat away at some aluminum parts in engine. I have not added this to radiator yet. Advise please. Big Al
I'm not sure about the additives. Have you cleaned your radiator and condenser? They may look clear but lots of stuff will hide in there. Are your fans turning on? What year is the car?
That is definitely too high. The Vettes are bottom breathers and suck up a lot of garbage into the AC condensor and Radiator. Three things to check 1) Is the air dam there and in good condition ? This spoiler / air dam is needed to help push the air into the radiator. 2) Check the condition of your radiator hoses and see if they are partially collapsing when the car gets hot. 3) You MUST thoroughly clean all the garbage out of the AC condensor and radiator.
Use some compressed air and a long 90 deg nozzle tool of this nature http://www.rakuten.com/prod/mountain...212940104.html to push air from the backside to the front and out. Remove the top plastic shroud - 4 10 mm bolts. Use the tool and you will be amazed at the amount of garbage that comes out. I do mine annually and get several handfulls of sand / dirt out each time. My guess is that yours has never been done.
Forget addatives and just use new Dexcool in the factory recommended % and you will be fine.
