Default C6 Z06 shifter install question.

I bought a new C6 Z06 shifter from GM parts house but I've got a few questions about it. First question is when the shifter was shipped it was together as an assembly and the stick won't move at all is that normal? And second I'm curious as to what has to be done for the sound deadening boot. I have a B and M in the car now and with it I had to cut my original boot so it could slide down over the base of the shifter. With the C6 shifter will I need a stock untouched lower boot or is the base larger like the B and M? I all ready bought a new lower boot so I'm good either way I'm just wondering if I'll need anything else other than one of the two boots. Thanks

Ok nevermind the shifter being locked up. After reading a little I figured that part out. Now what about the boot situation?

Yes, you will need an unmodified C5 rubber boot. The base of the C6 shifter is exactly the same as the C5.
One other thing, you need to make sure that your alignment pin stays in while you install align the shifter box. Once you've done that, then you raise the pin and lock it in place in the top of the slot.
