Not sure if something is just loose. Take off your door panel and take a look and let us know what see when you operate it. You can Google for video help on removal. Let us know if you need any further help on the panel removal.

took the door panel off and when the window is down, the top off the window bangs into upper front and rear cable pulleys of the regulator when you shut the door causing the rattling sound. I can move the top edge of the window side to side about a half inch making it bang against the pulley(green part). there is a lot of play in the guides that the vertical rails are in. what is suppose the limit the side to side movement of the window?

I have never had to go inside a C5 door yet. I looked in the FSM but it was of no real help with regard to what you saw. I recommend you look at some of the videos on regulator replacement, I know of 2 at least. Just do a Google search. You might want to also contact someone on the Forum who posted success or guidance on this issue. Lastly, you might want to go to a parts store and look at a regulator to see if anything if different about yours. A lot of times the plastic rollers will break. Try and look in the door bottom for any debri signs also. Wish I could be of more help.

When you go to remove the regulator, check the old one to see if the plastic cable guides on the gear housing are broken. The guides keep the spring loading on the cables on each side.
