Default Diff Fluid?

I drove my 2002 C5 hard for the first time yesterday. It has 606 miles on it now. A little while ago I noticed 6 drops of greenish fluid on the garage floor where the Differental would be. Is this normal after hard accelerations? Does this stuff vent out normally with a new vette or do I have a leak?

Thanks,
Tim

Leaks are very, very common. Most all of us have had them. I have too of course. The driver's side O-ring flattens, its a time consuming repair thats covered under warranty. They will probably want to keep it overnight.. as its a 6 hour job I believe.

It could be a real "leak"; but also can just be some spilling out the top drain.

My new 2002 did the same. Would never drip until after a spirited drive; then would drip a few drops, then completely stop until the next drive. Then at about 1500 miles, it stopped dripping completely.

I wonder if the factory is slightly overfilling the carrier, and the level normailzes itself after awhile?
Or, does one need to let the seals "break in" a little?

I aggree with mike... its very common for leaks, but I would wait and just keep and eye on if for now... it could just have been overfilled from the factory. Theres been at least 1 member toast a set of gears b/c it completely ran out of fluid (it left him stranded to) so keep an eye on the level.

At some point you need to get to a decision point to take it in for warranty. I didnt have drop one (app 32k) till I got on a 3500 mile RT road drip I mean trip. Keep in mind that I really had no way to tell how much leaked out during driving in balmy desert conditions (104 in the shade in May) I could see app 1/2 dollar sized drops over night. Again, if you were the dealer would you take kindly to warranty a differential that has been driven bone dry? I also didnt mention that the fluid gets all over the exhaust and has a perpetual burning oil smell when you idle. I brought it in right after the trip, before I washed it even :D The dealer diagnosed it using a black light and tighten and retorqued all the covers and decided later to R/R the differential fluid and the friction modifier due to probably dilution of the old friction modifier due to dye dilution, manifested by differential chatter during slow figure eight manuvers.
