Installed a new Hurst shifter and it rattles when accelerating. Hurst said it is normal for aftermarket shifters, can't believe it. They said there is no insulation in the aftermarket ones. Don't see any in the stock one either. Any suggestions.
Re: Rattling Hurst Shifter, can it be corrected? (jimman)
Once you remove the rubber from the system it will make more noise. Mine made noise but I taped wheel weights around the shaft which helped a bit but it was totally cured when I switched to an MGW ****. Now quiet as stock.
Re: Rattling Hurst Shifter, can it be corrected? (jimman)
jimman, The stock shifters shaft is actually 2 seperate pieces of steel that are seperated (insulated) by rubber between them. That is what is inside the big bulge in the shaft about 2 inches below the bottom of the stock ****. I think this is what Hurst is refering to.

jimman,
Many here say that it is the OEM shift ****. I have the same problem with a recently installed Hurst and the OEM ****. Here's another thread on the subject http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=338944
