My car is not getting cranking power, with a jump its getting enough to run the display, hud and wiper moter, the collum is locked so I cant move the car as the wheel is turned.
My ? is how much power is needed to unlock the collum if its working, or is the DARN thing locked AGAIN.
what should i check ? with my trucks battery and the key in the on posistion the charge reads one noch below 13, on its own noches below 13, should it start ?
Sounds like a battery replacement is required. The column lock is exactly that, LOCKED. Try the yanking bit, turn key off, pull key, wait a few, then try again. Reapeat a few times and it will usually unlock. GET THE CLB....
P.S. Batteries are a problem. 4 computers running off it wven when not running if the Key FOB is within range.

Mike, do you know how to open the rear hatch without power ?
Darn.. I know there is a fuel door release wire under the driver side wheel well carpeting.. maybe a trunk release there too?
I'd try a search for the wheel lock. Supposedly there are 2 fuses you can pull to bypass it. Angel should know about the alternator...
Was your power slowly going down over time? I think your alternator is ok or your battery would be 100% dead. What were the symptoms over time as it lost electrical power?
Also, there is the brute force trick to break the steering loose.
Right hand pulling down HARD on the steering wheel at the 2 o'clock position, then insert and turn key. Should break loose. They ALWAYS do with enough force. Never seen it hurt anything.
It sounds to me that your truck battery is supplying enough voltage to start the car...certainly enough to unlock the column.
As mentioned above, get tough with that steering wheel, jerking it up against the limits of it's movement...at the same time turn the key off and on. Keep that up...it should unlock.
Yes, there is a wire in the hatch area for manual release. Check your Owner's Manual for location. As I recall it is on the left side.
Have you checked your footwell on the passenger side for moisture. Since the hotter season and the attendant use of the AC, there have been a number of posts indicating plugged AC drains. You may have some saturated electronics under the toeboard causing your no start.

Good luck.

Mark, thanks for the reply.I replaced the battery and still nothing, I pulled these current codes
SDM U1000
U1064
IPC U1160
U1176
BCM NO COMM
All of these are ommcation codes, the car was sitting in the grass during a long rain storm and the water may have rose up and wet some moduals. Is there a good chance they will be ok after drying out
I don't have any first hand knowledge of this problem...knocking on wood. There are others here that are more qualified to give you a definitive answer, however some have posted that after drying out everything worked OK.
Check your mail; I sent you info on a recent post where C5-TECH helped a member with a problem exhibiting symptoms similar to yours.

Open the access door to your computer (floor board on the passenger side). If you computer is wet, I think you'll need a new one. If wet you can try drying it out and keep your fingers crossed.
Your car will still start if you have the Column lock show up. If your car is not turning over at ll the battery is most likely dead, if you tried charging it and it does not start, then check the box on the floor board on the passanger side, if it is wet then you are in some trouble, I don't know how much it cost to replce those or just check the fuses.
Good luck buddy.
P.S OI just reread yor original post, seems your battery is not holding a charge as I had the same problem as you described, what charge does it show on the DIC? You might need to go buy a battery, optima usually run $99.00 at Costco or $110. at a local auto parts store like Pep BOys.

Above is the Code Translation... That BCM No COMM does not sound good at all.
Problems..
Body Control Module
Right and Left Door Control Modules
Remote Function Actuation
Maybe let it dry out more..How high did the water get?

2K, read his posts again, he's tried a different battery!
thanks guys, Ive got a brand new battery, the BCM is damp so lets see if it works after it dries out.
Take the BCM out of the car...
And put it in the oven on 150-170 degrees for an hour (Yes the oven, I do this kind of thing all the time...)
YOu will be good to go...
I once had a 220V GFCI breaker that was wet and would not stay closed...
I put it in the oven for one hour and it was fine..
I had moisture in my front directional lenses... The oven trick worked... :smash: :smash:
