ok so i am not looking for a fastest thing on wheels but definatley wanting something to recon with on the street. I would eventually like to do nitrous as i had that before, but whats a good mod in the meantime?
Ive got a hurricane intake, maganflow exhaust, and im pretty sure an H-pipe.
I do have the auto tranny but was looking into the LS2 (i think its LS2/6) intake? seems cheap enough for the power. cam and heads maybe eventually but more than i want at the moment.
thoughts?
What year is your car? If its 01 or newer you already have a ls6 intake. The ls2 is not the same as the ls6. If you already have a ls6 intake then do a stall converter or headers.
LS6 intake is the direct swap and is better supposedly than the LS2. You should do that and some LT headers. The car can handle a 100-125 nitrous setup as is. Good tires, high stall converter, and gears are the best way to go. All that and you'd have a beast on the street. Especially if you go as far as heads and cam later.
IF you are open to driving up here to Denver, Clint at AIR is awesome.
* LS6 Intake & PCV System 5-8whp
* TUNE, does alot for a car 10-15HP and also changes trans for better shifts. ECS/COW have mail order setups and Clint at AIR has a Dyno tune setup if you want to get the most out of your mods
* LT headers or LS7 Exhaust manifolds. (LS7 manifolds/downpipes/H-pipe can be had for about $300-$400 and good for 20ish HP)
So Ive been looking at aftermarket exhaust parts and I cant find an H-pipe at all.... they are all X-pipes. What did the factory exhaust come with? Im thinking maybe i really dont have a full catback exhaust and only a muffler/tip swap....
Factory exhaust has a "H" pipe. the X pipe is a upgrade... not really going to gain much if any power but will change the sound of the exhaust to make it a little smoother and less motor boaty. Intake Manifold, Tune and Headers/LS7 exhaust would be a good upgrade that will wake it up a little bit without doing major work or breaking the bank. XSPower makes affordable headers people here have been very happy with and on the cheap.
Catback on a C5 is Tips, Mufflers, Axle pipes. so its more what i would call "Axle Back Exhaust" because it doesnt replace the mid pipe as the cats are part of the midpipe. For gear ratio, IIRC the diff has a metal tag on it with your gearing from the factory so you might have to get under it and look at the diff for the tag. Also it should have it on the original window sticker if you happen to have got one.

oh son of a!!!! I thought i had an exhaust on it already but i guess I just have an axle back oh well, guess its just one more thing to add to the list haha
are you saying that I could use a full LS7 header and exhaust setup? would it be better than going aftermarket specific for my LS1?
There is a tag on the inside of the clove box door. If it has G90 G92 it has the 3:15 sport ratio. I don't know what the code is for the 2:87 ratio which is the only other ratio offered with the automatic.
Gears are best bang for the buck you can get. If you have the 2:87's, changing to 3:42 or 3:73 will make it like a whole different car. 3:15's are a good gear too.
There is a tag on the differential that has the ratio on too but you will have to look around for it.

i was looking into these. 3:73 seems a good compromise for a DD and good power. i put them on my 5.0 in the past and wish i did the 4:10 but i wasnt planning on spraying the mustang like i am the vette
ill check the tag tomorrow when its light out
LS6 intake came in late 03-04 cars stock. you can find people selling them cheap if you wait around on here. There is already an Hpipe on your car. you will want an x pipe. Just chimed in on a thread in regards to the hpipe. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...pipe-swap.html
You can find headers on here cheap if you wait around as well. Get used pipes if your on a budget, if you dont mind loud a good cheap combo is XSpower LT and midpipe with borla straight pipe as catback, then spend that money on everything after the engine. when your add a kick in the pants like nitrous you have to remember the transfer of energy that quick is hell on your tranny and rear. If I were to do it all again with your car....
Tell us a little more about you and your car. Look at the sticker in the clove box and learn what that all means. If you have an automatic you may already have the sport ratio in the rear end. If it's 3:15, that is a decent street gear. Again if you have an automatic a tune will net dramatic results because of the torque management, shift speed and shift firmness.
You can take a picture of the sticker in the glove bow and post it and there will be several people that can tell you how your car is equipped.
