Default headlight problem

I have a 2002 coupe with 25,000 miles, bought it new. I took it out last night in the dark and when I turned the headlights off they both went down and then the left one came back up with light off. When I turned them back on & the left went down and the right went up. I turned then back off and the left went up & the right down. I then manually cranked down the left one and turned on the lights & both went up allowing me to get back home, but when I turned them off at home the same thing happened. Any recommendations?

Not at home with my FSM but it seems like your control module is acting up. It controls both motors with the one module to command up or down. Internally the module sends separate signals to each motor. I will look later and see if I can add anything else. You may be able to borrow one from another C5 owner and see if that corrects it. If you need info on how to locate the module let me know. I really wish the C5 evolution had gone to fixed headlights.

Check the little white rubber stops on the inside. I had this issue last fall. One of the rubber/plastic stops had fallen off and the other was badly chewed up. They are available from a number of the vendors. if they are just chewed up you can pull them off and flip them over for a temp fix until new ones arrive.

^^ what he said, the rubber stops/tabs can deteriorate and cause the linkage to travel past its stop and cycle back up.

Thanks for the help. It was the stops, you saved me a lot of grief.
