my 98 performance wise is stock with the exception of a corsa extreme and xpipe. I'll probably upgrade to a cold air intake but for right now thats all i really plan to do. It's an automatic trans car and I really hate the stock shifting. I can't stand how long it takes to shift form one gear to the next and I really don't care for the shift points either. I'm sure all this is designed to around gas milage during normal day to day driving but it is far from fun. There is nothing at all wrong with the way it shifts but I would like it to stay in 1st and 2nd a little longer before shifting to 3rd and overdrive. I would also really really like a snappier shift when it does shift not a long drawn out (to me anyway) shift like damn lincoln town car or something.
Will the hand held tuners allow me to adjust shift point and firmness? Or is it a matter of dropping the pan and installing a shift kit assuming that can still be done with these cars.
A good tune will change shift points, shift pressure along with engine tuning that will also make the car feel a little happier. I would find a tuner locally and have it tuned.. I had mine Dyno tuned and it was about $450. Most programmers will not do much. If you are not wanting to do a full dyno tune then look at ECS or Chuck COW tuning, mail order and both are fantastic with corvettes not to mention they are supporting venders.

Thank you both very much, I don't think I really need to have the car dyno'ed I don't race the car at all and really don't have much need for more than what I've already got so I'm really not trying to squeeze every last drop of hp out of it. Although it would be cool to see what it does on a dyno being a 16 year old car and all but its info that i'm not going to do anything with, sorta like it doesn't matter what my scale says I just want my pants to button :-) I would just like it to shift like a sports car and not a mini van
What you want done is pretty basic. A stock automatic benefits a lot more from a tune than a stick shift. After a CAI and a tune my car felt completely different. The firm, crisp shifts really wake up the car.
I would look for a local tuner and see if they will make the adjustments. They shouldn't charge too much just to adjust pressure and shift points. Make sure they know what they are doing and have some experience with the C5. If you go local and don't like what you get you can take it back. I have no experience with handhelds.
Doug, I'm in! 2 questions though 1) if I plan on ordering cold air intake in the very near future should I go ahead and list that as an upgrade for you include in your tune?
2) if I overnight my PCM to you first part on next week how long until I get it back? Can you overnight back to me if I include a pre paid USPS overnight Slip?

Thanks,
1, I can tune it now for the intake, you just have to tell me which one you are going with. Also if you are interested, we have both Halltech and Vararam intakes in stock, along with a ton of different barely used take off CAI's. I can put together a good package price for one of those, new or used.
