After checking all areas that were mentioned by forum, my front end is still making a noise like something is loose. Sometime when I turn and when I more forward.
Sorry about the lack of info. It's a 2001 C5 that makes a clunk noise when I first drive off and sometimes when I turn. I've checked sway bar, a-arms and shocks but still seem to make noise. I have torqued everything to spec.
If the car has the early year plastic sway bar end links, they can be the source of lots of noises. The break down with age as does most plastic. Later year cars got metal end links. Many owners with the plastic ones replace them with the metal ones. If you have metal links a little lube never hurts........
Here are a few threads from the Forum about "clunking steering" that may give you some additional things to check out:
Thanks a bunch. Replaced both end links with new ones (moog), torqued to 50 ft-lbs and no more clunk. I'll drive for few weeks and then re-torque. I do have one question, Some say 50ft-lbs and some say 59ft-lbs. What is the true torque on sway-bar end links? and on bushing bracket bolts? Thanks in advance.
Blanco56, as you've found, 8Vette7 knows his stuff. We have several extremely knowledgeable users here on CF and you've just ran into one. Glad you got your problem resolved. From the research I did quickly, looks like end link torque is 53 ft/lbs. Good luck with all.
