Default O2 delete?

Hello, I have some LG Street headers on my 98' coupe. I have a check engine light because I don't have any O2 sensors anymore. How is the best way to clear this code for good?

Also, how much is this car worth? It is in excellent condition with 50,000 miles on it. It is a M6. KBB says it is worth $14,595 and Edmunds says $10,317.

Well I know I have Full system on mine and I ran all 4 sensors until I had H/C/I then they deleted the front 2. and by not having any sensors you would have to find a tuner to delete. But I don't think that is a good idea.

The Front 2 sensors (Primary) Are responsible for the Fuel adjustments made by the ECU. The rears are only for checking the opperation of a Catalytic converter, so if you remove the cats you will need to trick the ecu or tune out the rear sensor to keep the light from coming on. You need Primary O2 sensors. if you need extentions to make them fit, get them.. they are avalible online. the only way to get the code to go for good is tune them out.

I would suggest installing Front O2 sensor and tune out just the rears. There are a few companies that make a O2 Simulator that tricks the computer for the rear sensor but they eventually go bad and the code can pop back up. ZZPerfomance makes some simulators for GM FWD cars that im sure can be hooked up to the OEM connectors to trick the rear sensor but I would say get a tune if its in the budget..

ECS and COW both offer a great mail order tune that can be setup to turn them off if requested.

Your car is worth what you were willing to pay for it. Booth seem good prices (KBB high end and Edmunds Low) somewhere in between sounds like a Great deal.

So there are four sensors? I only remember seeing two. How much is a tune and how does the mail order tune work? Anybody know a good Central Florida tuner? Thanks!

Yes, there are 4 sensors. the front two are a must. If you are wanting a good basic tune that will also tune out the rear O2's, I would suggest looking at the ECS mail order tune. you will have to send your PCM to them and they will ship back, so the car will be down for a short while (they get the tune on and back in a few days).

I think I saw ECS mail order tunes were like $150 and you send them a list of mods with it to get a Accurate tune. From what others have posted its some of the best $$ they have spent on their cars.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-s...nly-149-a.html

I have a custom Dyno tune for my mods done Locally and I payed $450 w/ Dyno. A custom Dyno tune will get you the Most performance out of your setup but again its going to cost you more upfront. Might check with venders here for a good tuner if you want a custom tune. Might also change the topic to something like "Good Tuner in Florida?"

Thanks... I'll have to check that mail in tune out. Considering trading this car at the dealer for a new car. We'll see what they offer. If the offer is not good enough I'll probably try to sell it here after getting this taken care of. The differences in value from Edmunds and KBB have me confused though. A car like mine in really good condition with 50K miles seems to go for around $12K from what I can see here?

Your profilfe doesn't list a location, but I can highly reccomend Powertech in St Pete.

There are also devices that trick the rear sensors. Hard to find as they are technicly illegal.
I used them after removing Cats [also technicly illegal] before turbos. Id just get a good tune and have them tuned out.

Ignore KBB- they are industry ******.

So Edmunds is correct? Damn, that is a lot lower than I expected.

If you are near orlando call H&H Corvettes. They will be able to refer you to someone that is not a hack.

LG headers should have come with the extensions to run the rear sensors in the front. Then you block off the rear sensor holes. Next you will need to get a tune to turn off the rears. Doug at ECS in NJ can do a mail order tune that will make your car run right and improve the benefit of having the headers. He tuned my car and even without rear sensors and air pump my car will still pass NJ emission standards, it runs that good.
As far as the used car sites go, I do work with new car dealers and I can tell you that all those sites are garbage. If you're doing business with a dealer, their numbers will be useless. You're better off looking at used Corvette sites for more accurate appraisals.

I went looking online and it appears Corvettes like mine are selling between $14 $ $20K. That seems more like what I was thinking. We'll see what the dealer offers. If I don't like the offer I'll post it up here.
