Question on Changing Oil
Saw a note few days ago that it was difficult to remove all the oil from C5. Whats the trick? Does the car require being tilted in order to drain the oil pan? Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

How difficult is it to remove the drain plug with out using jacks or ramps. I think my truck ramps are a little to steep for the Vet.
You will need ramps. I got some at Auto Zone for about $30.00. "Rino Ramps" I believe was the brand. I had to place 1" thick boards in front of the ramps to clear the air dam.
I subsequently purchased a lift from "KwikLift" http://www.kwiklift.com/
It makes it very easy to change the oil, perform brake work, and to access anything underneath the car. Note with the "KwikLift", that the front of the rack is slightly higher then the rear. For oil changes, I back the car onto the rack. That puts the front a little lower then the rear and allows all the oil to drain out without jacking up the back of the car.

What about jacks and stands?? Also, what about the oil change intervals? The book says every 15k :eek: That goes against everything I've ever learned regarding oil change intervals. I've always gone with 3k intervals and 1k for the first change.

It's only a 20-min job and I try not to make rocket science out of oil changes I just get the back higher then the front and remove the plug and wait till stops dripping.
I do prefill the filter and lube the filter's seal,wipe the block surface where the filter seats. filling the filter helps the mains and rod bearing from oil starvation at start up.
I guess you could pull the motor remove the oil pan and wipe it out but that might be a little ****

Synthetic oil can go for 15K of normal driving without problem. Most of us are conditioned to the dino inspired 3K change. I try to change the filter about halfway through the sequence. Amsoil says 25K or once a year.

Well, the Quick-lift seems a bit over-kill just to change the oil :eek:. Someone out there must sell a set of simple low-profile/wide ramps for cars with wide tires and low to the ground. :cry.
The car came from the factory with Moble-1 synthetic and the manual says to change the oil when the DIC says so. Should I just go by the book here or what :confused:.
