I have an 02 C5 with 1500 miles. 17" fronts and 18" rears. Guess that eliminates the hassle of having to rotate the tires . Anybody try side-to-side swapping  So what happens when the fronts ware out and the rears are still looking good  Do we just change the fronts or go with all 4?
Welcome Cliffman. Unless you're doing a lot of burnouts or your allignment is way off, then you have a long time to contemplate an answer to your question. :)
If you're staying with the Goodyear EMT's then you shoud have many miles of harsh riding, noisy, and ill handeling tires. If you can't see yourself putting up with this crap, then go with a non-runflat or another brand of runflat that are in the high performance category and put more enjoyment into your driving. :D
Hmmmm, OK now we're getting somewhere. Now burnouts as of yet and I don't plan on doing that very ofter. I did noticed quite a bit of noise when driving with the top up. Going topless has its advantages :D. I don't know much about tires but what I do know is rotating them every 3k and watching the pressure will greatly extend there life. I assumed the noise was due to wider tires and being low to the ground. Is there a specific tire that will reduce this noise that you would recommend? I don't mind going without the run-flat. That why I have the roadside service insurance. :)
Tires on the Vette can not be rotated. If you look at the side walls you should see some arrows on them and this is the direction the tire is supposed to go. So you have left hand and right hand tires.
My OEM EMT rears were shot. Fronts were still good. I recently retired and my cash flow is considerably less, so I replaced the rears only with Bridgestones Potenza S03s (less than $600 total). The ride is much better in all aspects, handling improved and noise became nearly non-existent with the assistance of my DIY divider. I have noticed very little variation at my driving limits with this arrangement between the tires. This is a worry if you go to the car's limits apparently as indicated by fellow forum members. Then again I will remain close to stock until my warranty expires.
I would suggest you go to Tire Rack's site and much research will be revealed. They also support the forum and my arrangement with them worked out very well.
Tires, exhaust systems and air intake systems are probably the three most subjective topics that get discussed on these forums. Having said that, I like the Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP RFT's. (These are run flats) I got just over 32,000 miles out of the OEM Goodyear EMT's, but they were the nosiest, harshest riding dang things I've ever had the displeasure to ride on. I thought they were pretty lousy in the traction department in the rain and wet pavement conditions, too. The Firestones (I have 16,000 miles on them) on the other hand are very quiet, produce a smooth ride, and are great in the wet. And, maybe best of all, you get all four for less than a grand, so they're easy on your wallet as well as your backside. I keep them poperly inflated and they appear to be about half worn and are wearing evenly. Anyway, if you want to stay with run flats, there are now several choices. The Firestones, Michelains, and Yokohamas come to mind and I think there are a couple more, Maybe BFG for one. I have seen real good reviews here on all of these, but the Firestones seem to get the most praise from the non competition guys. I don't race the car so I wanted quiet, comfort, good wet traction and a reasonable price. I believe that I received all of the above with the Firehawks. Welcome and enjoy, the forum is a great place for answers and help with all of your C5 questions.
Redriverjohn, that’s great info dude. I'll just ride it out of the OEM's and try and keep the top down so as not to hear the noisy things . Sounds like I'll get about 40k out of theses puppies.
If you get 40K, please drop us a line! I think you'll be back before 25k if your luck is typical of most of the Forum!
Just a thought, others have done this... if you remove and sell your EMT's now, you'll have enough to buy a nice set of OTHER tires, and pocket change to spare. Bridgestone S03 get my vote, see my thread on Bridgestone S03 vs. EMT's from about last week. Many other choices discussed here as well.
As others have said, you can't rotate any... rears will wear out first... fronts usually last 25-50% longer. I think the average replacement for rears is around 15-25k miles. My car has 30k+ miles on it and fronts look very good, rears will probably have to replaced in the next 5-10k miles.

I'd like to swap my OEM tires for some better handling (and cheaper) non runflat BFG's. Only trouble is, what do I do if I get a flat?
If you get a flat with the "run-flats" what do you do? You drive to your closest tire repair shop and let them screw up your wheels while removing the tire to be fixed. I think not for me. I would rather pullover, call my roadside repair and have it towed to the dealer and let them remove and fix the flat. I could be wrong here but I would think the dealer would be better equipped to do the job.
