Pull engine and drop trans or pull body off drivetrain?
I am installing heads, cam (and all components), long tubes, rear differential.
I do not have a lift so I was wondering the best way to go about such a job. I was thinking of pulling the engine out, then lifting the car on jack stands and then drop the trans/differential.
Or is it easier to pull the body and leave the drive train on the ground?
As for the diff, just drop the rear cradle and swap it. No need to pull anything else.
I don't think unbolting the cradles and lifting the body would be easy on jack stands. You'd have to get the body pretty high to clear the drive train. Now it'd be fairly easy with a 2-post lift.
If everything has to come out, I pull the drivetrain first. Then support the engine from the above with a come along. Remove the front cradle, then lower the engine and slide out the bottom. It takes about 24" clearance to slide out. It's crude, but works for me. This is probably more work than you need to do for H/C and diff job.
