Hello, everyone.
I am in the process of putthing a new shifter, seats, belts etc. So I thought it would be a good time to fix some fitment issues with my HUD. I don't know at this time if I will need to change anything on the HUD itself, but my problem is getting to it.
Can someone point me in the right dirrection of removing the dash? I already have the entire center console and the driver side knee bolster and left side of the dash off, but don't know how to continue. Any help, advise, links, instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Michael
There is a very good post on how to install a hud that gives detailed instruction and picks to include dash removal. Try searching for HUB install. Hope this helps

Reason: wrong link
Thank you, but it says -The requested page was not found.-
In another thread was posted a link to the instructions from Corvette Essentials on how to take out the gauge cluster itself and it included step by step pictures of removing all the lower parts. I am looking for something like that for the upper parts too.
Thanks in advance guys.
This link works. U R correct one link is no longer working but some guy uploaded it somehow. I will paste it and if it doesn't work send me your email and I will forward it to you. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...d-install.html

Reason: Updaate
Thank you guys. I just got done taking everything off. While I am at it, I'll take appart everything and clean it. Whatever is just plastic I'm soking in the bathtub.
What would be a good product to bring everything to a nice rich black shine?
Thank you.
I figured out the issue with the HUD. Does anyone have any ideas about fixing it without having to buy a whole new unit?
I have the little plastic insert that receives the axle from the base disintegrated on this side
and the plastic axle on the little part broken on this side
Any of the armor all products or similar products, from my use they all seem to do about the same job. That looks like a job, I hope I never have to tear into mine. Good luck
Thank you dadaroo. This is the problem, but it is a little more complicated with me. This is a great DIY article, but it addresses fixing one side. I was thinking of different ways to address the issue discribed in the article. My problem is the opposite side, where the part on the mirror is recieving the mounting boss. That tiny plastic insert in the mirror literally turned into dust .
Never worked on one so I am not any further help. If you decide to get a replacement they can still be had new. If you want used, try SteveDotenMotoring a Forum vendor. He is a reliable source for these.
Thank you with the replies. I fixed it and now I am pretty sure it will outlast the rest of the car. Will post pictures later. However I have a much bigger problem now, that freaks me out. The dash itself - the instrument cluster behind the wheel, does not shut off. I overlooked it when I put the HUD back in and it completely drained my battery. Please HELP! It freaks me out.

Make sure you "exercise" the multifunction switch and the ignition switch. What I assume you are saying is that the 2 UV lights that illuminate the dials are staying on.
Double check and verify that the other lights inside the car actually go "out" like they are supposed to.
In the interim you should be able to pull one of these fuses to interrupt power:
IPC +12V power feeds from I/P fuse box:
Fuse #19 (only powered when ignition is ON)
Fuse #25 (powered all the time)
I would assume that the UV lights high voltage power supply is provided via Fuse 19 but can't confirm with the FSM. I would check and see if you have power on both sides of the fuse when the ignition is off. The UV lights are supposed to get an "on" signal from the Multifunction switch.
ОК, so I went to jump start the car. When I opened the door a strong buzzing sound started coming from the passenger's foot well. Closed the door and it went away. So I hooked the cables to my Subaru and jump started the car. Everything works as intended. Let it run just for a couple of minutes and shut it off. Dash stays on for about 15-20 sec and then turns off as it should do. No security flashing or anything. All is good…..well, not quite.
NOW I HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!!! WTF?

No good deed goes unpunished. Hope the lighting issue does not come back.
On the CEL, pull your codes and see if anything is there to post.
