Need help with dash electronics
Here is what I did. A couple of days ago with my kid we tore into the dash. I had a HUD drop issue. So we took everything apart and disconnected everything. Thinking about it now it may have been stupid on my behalf NOT to disconnect the battery. So, I took the HUD inside, opened it to repair it. Meanwhile I started the car to move it in and out of the garage numerous times during the last days including today. Aftr I repaired my HUD I went back out and mounted it together with the gauge cluster. Everything worked just fine. The HUD came out three more times until I adjusted the mirror to sit on the proper gears. Then I pulled the car back in and after I shut it off, I noticed that the dash stayed lit up and "security" was flashing. I noticed it and thought it will go away, kinda like when your lights stay on for a little bit and went back inside. Just now about 5 hours later I picked my wife from work and going through the garage noticed the "security" kind of flashing pale and could hear "tic-tic-tic-tic". My battery is pretty much gone, from what I can only guess is the dash staying lit up the whole time. I tried starting the car, but there is already no juice in it. I moved the cluster around and it stopped for a moment and then the "security" and the ticking sound came back and together with it it just spit out the CD that was in the stereo. I disconnected the gauge cluster and let it be. Tomorrow I'll charge the battery, but this is freaking me out.
Does anyone have an idea why the dash stayed on after I shut the car? And how to stop it from doing it again? Please, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
For others, here is what I said in the other Thread
Make sure you "exercise" the multifunction switch and the ignition switch. What I assume you are saying is that the 2 UV lights that illuminate the dials are staying on.
Double check and verify that the other lights inside the car actually go "out" like they are supposed to.
In the interim you should be able to pull one of these fuses to interrupt power:
IPC +12V power feeds from I/P fuse box:
Fuse #19 (only powered when ignition is ON)
Fuse #25 (powered all the time)
I would assume that the UV lights high voltage power supply is provided via Fuse 19 but can't confirm with the FSM. I would check and see if you have power on both sides of the fuse when the ignition is off. The UV lights are supposed to get an "on" signal from the Multifunction switch.
