I just hit 70K and I was wondering if it was wise to do a head a cam job with out doing the bottom end. Other choice is I buy an LS2 block and build that little by little and continue using the car. The heads that I have are casting #799 which I want to send to AI and get them flowing right.
If you have good compression, good oil pressure, no smoke and it runs quiet, use your ls1. If not build the ls2. A lot of people have done heads/cam, N02 and blowers using engines with over 100,000 miles without problems.
Pulling the engine is a lot more work than heads/cam. You can still prep the ls2 so you have a backup.

The LS1 is a very stout engine. There are members with over 300k miles on them. As long as you maintain it properly, it will run a long time. 70k miles is just getting warmed up.

I did all of my mods between 158000 and 165000 miles on a stock bottom end and now have ~11.5:1 compression and still runs great.
