Default remove key, wait 10 sec, retry

98 C5. Just the other day, after starting the engine, I saw this (remove key, wait 10 sec, retry) message on the DIC, twice, but not twice in a row. The first time, I was in a parking space, saw the message, and did as comanded - all was fine afterwards. The second time, later the same day, I started the engine and began pulling out of a parking space, when the engine died. Since I was blocking traffic, I kept repeating this process until I was able to get out of the way of traffic before noticing the same message. I did as commanded and all was fine afterwards. So what gives? I later checked the codes but after resetting the codes I realized that I did not get the full information. Here is what I found: LDCM/RDCM=U1064H, unknown module=2100, RFA=(x)1016&C2100. The car has received the Chevy recall for the column lock. I have read other threads - will a column lock bypass do anything more that the recall fix? Could this be the key resistor - would a resistor bypass help?

I think you are confusing two unrelated conditions.

The "wait 10 seconds" message you got was due to the system sensing incorrect resistance in the ignition circuit upon start up. When you ignored the message and attempted to drive the 2mph fuel cut off kicked in and killed the engine. This is the factory theft deterrent system working as designed.

My car has did this several times the day I took it to the Woodward Dream Cruise. Never happened before or since. I can only surmise that the heat soak from a long day of mostly idling around changed the resistance in the circuit enough to cause the issue. It might be that I need to clean my key and/or ignition switch, but like I said, it never happened before or since. I would recommend that you start here.

My car already had the CLB (column lock bypass) installed. The dreaded steering column lock issue is entirely different.

Hope this helps.

These answers cause several questions in my mind, not the least of which is the conflict of answers. But let me ask this, if I stuff the key into the ignition and immediately switch it to the start position, does this upset the electronics?

So - first let me say that I stand corrected and apologize for providing incorrect information.

8VETTE7 is the undisputed heavy weight champion in terms of knowledge of these issues - so I have no problem telling you who to believe...believe him!

I think where I got confused is why I would get that wait 10 sec message...and also experience the 2 mph cutoff...when I already had the CLB installed. I assumed (there's my problem!) that it could not be column lock related. My situation happened last August, so I do not remember 100% for sure, but I am 99% sure that in a couple of instances, this happened after I parked and left the car for awhile, then came back to restart it. It was not a situation where I turned the key off, did not pull it out, then attempted a restart.

So - again - my apologies for heading you down the wrong path. You are in good hands with 8VETTE7!

This past weekend I had the infamous "pull key wait 10 seconds" message and I do have the LMC5 installed...never had a till this weekend but the thing is I had my hood open for maybe 45 minutes and I'm thinking the battery voltage was maybe to low due to the hood light being on. I did have my battery checked at my friends shop and he said it was ok. I have the AC Delco Professional battery (installed by the previous owner) which by looking at the battery looks like its 3-4 years old. Its a 650 CCA with a 90RC which I think is a little to low for my C5...the "recommended" battery has 700 CCA with a 120 RC and is part number 19001632. I think I'm going to replace the battery as a precaution...anyone want to chime in ??

Thanks, Bob

Thanks for the reply !!
I'll speak with Richard next week and see what he thinks but I haven't gotten the pull key message since I installed it back in the Fall...it wasn't until I had drained the battery a little bit and I might have left the key in the ignition before I started it...I'll probably go ahead and replace the battery just for peace on mind...not like it's a $1,000.00 part !!....I have to take my car to a Corvette specialist on Monday to have my non OEM shock messages tuned out and should also have the fuel shut off value changed...I'll pick their minds about the "pull key" message to and see what they think...maybe I'll check the ignition switch down the road since I've read this can be a cause...thanks again !!

Hi all,
I'd just like to throw something in here too. I have an LMC installed as well and have had intermittent "Pull key" probs, as well as car dying from 2-mph cutoff WITHOUT getting msg! I have noticed that pretty much without fail, if I get in car, put key in and turn ignition on very fast, I will get the "Pull Key" message. I now put key in, turn ignition to on and wait to about a 1-count, then fire up engine. I very rarely, if ever, get the msg or car dying.

Been getting the pull key code a lot lately, tried new battery no help ! Read a lot of forum posts on the subject so I did the following test . Insert key, turn to on position, can hear column lk motor cycle ,Turn key off, pull key,can hear column lk motor cycle . Then I try to turn wheel, the wheel is not locked !!! I've been driving this 03 for 8 yr's and never noticed the wheel not being locked .If the previous owner had a CLB installed would the lk motor cycle. I thought the CLB bypassed the motor! What have I got here?
