He had painted the block red (only the block, and probably with rattle can high temp paint).
The engine was only 1.5 years old with 2000 miles of use, and the red paint was not holding up well.
Also, you can barely tell its painted after its installed. I didn't like the red color since it doesn't match my yellow paint IMO, and was going to strip the paint or paint it black, but he told me not to worry about it since you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. He was right.
If you want some color in the engine bay, paint the intake/valve covers/fuel rail covers.
