Default Re: 6.0L truck engine question (kewlbrz)

Lets play with the numbers, but it seems like a budget superstroker long block could be done for parts at something like:

6.0 liter .060 over iron block - 600.00
Australian Nodular Iron Crank 4.0 stroke - 895.00
Rods/pistons - 1500.00
LQ9 Heads with stage I porting and 2.02/1.60 - 1500.00
Cam - 400
Misc parts (gaskets etc) - 1000.00

4.06x4.00 = 415ci

That should be good for 475+ RWHP depending on cam selection at under 6000.00

Add a 1DSC blower for 5000.00 and your around the $12K mark making 650+ RWHP

yes...the reason i was asking was because i know when the silverado ss comes out. i was wondering what the engine potential was. if you already have the whole engine, im sure 6000 could possibly get it stroked with some nice internals and a nice heads and cam package as well

then we can all wave goodbye to the lightnings. :seeya

a lot of people think that chevy is behind in the horsepower wars but i think that chevy engines are great. who cares if the silverado ss is 345hp. it has the potential to get much better. and all with a readily available aftermarket. correct me if im wrong.

What would be the max (safest) over bore to the 6.0l block? I heard no more than 0.030 over.

Has anyone put a truck intake manifold in a C5? I read on LS1tech.com that it flows much better than even the 2001+ intake manifold, but is 4" taller and doesn't fit under a stock hood. Maybe an aftermarket hood for the Magnusson/LPE supercharger would work

kewlbrz,
Could you elaborate whats involved in putting a ATI on a stroker as opposed to a non-stroker?
You’ll need a complete fuel system, a lot of tuning with access to dyno with a wideband, most likely custom (bigger size) intercoolers not to mention a belt drive system to able to handle it (I’m not aware of one in existence so far :nonod: )
You do the math

BTW: most of the above is true for pretty much any motor (no necessarily a stroker) except maybe bone stock one.

I’m curious about that too.

Thanks EuG. I agree that would need to be done for a blower. But the NA parts pricing seems pretty close.

Miles, here is some info I have regarding the manifolds:

This is an older test, but the relationships are interesting.

<BLOCKQUOTE>code:<HR><PRE>Without Manifolds - Headflow Only:
Cylinder Head Intake Manifold .200" .300" .350" .400" .450" .500" .550" .600"

[QUOTE]Well it has been a while since I was in college but here goes my best math skills:
6 liter truck block or 5.7 aluminum: $500
Stroker Crank: $1000-2200
Connecting Rods: $700
Pistons $750
Machine work: $500
Bearings/Rings $350
Studs and bolts: $400
Cost on parts less assembly $4200-5400
I can build the motor just need parts and my machine shop guy to bore, line hone, and clearance the block. 427 here we come. :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

   :yesnod: :) :chevy :D

Its just a matter of time and i'm in, but i believe it would be a 415 cube and not 427, right?

You can bore the block to a .060 over, but most people only go to .030 (like myself :D ) for a nitrous of FI setup.

You won't get a forged crank for under $1900 yet either :( been trying to do that for some time :D
COME racing from down under has some castings and billet coming "soon." Keep an eye on them. Hopefully press the prices down a lil. This is all on ls1tech.com

I have a set of fully ported and polished stage IV heads coming from SpeedDemon I will let you guys know about. They should kick some serious ****. :D

GM is starting to sell the 6.0 blocks now from what Pace tells me.
When COME racing comes out with a cast 4.00" crank for $800 or so you will have the ability to have a real nice budget stroker on your hands. Offset grinding could get you a lil more.
the weight difference btw the alum and 6.0 blocks are about 70lbs, really not that big of a deal. With the 6.0 block you won't have to worry about a sleeve dropping like some "other" hmmm anybody follow that one on ls1tech :D ??

Yeah, GM sells just the blocks anyway. I can get them for $695+ shipping from TeamChevrolet ;).

I think a 409 CID 6.0L setup would be killer ;)

no way that truck intake would fit. My sheetmetal intake is less than 1/2 that increase and the hood JUST closes. Also the TB would be higher up. That truck intake is fairly large :D

hm wonder how much long those runners are....

[QUOTE]
right Nitro :D 4.06 bore and 4.00 stroke would be a 415.
The 427 has a 4.06 bore and 4.125" carnk :D

gets kind of nutty....

how about this Nitro a 4.15 bore (alum. resleeve, MTI) and 4.25 crank!!! 460v... Joe Prince is doing resleeving also. I think with a 4.10 sleeve. However, I do not think he is using the cheap TRUCK sleeves.
Where do you think my soon to be extra alum. block is going :D :D :D ???
One iron 408 stroker and an "extra" super stroker :D :D
hey where did my money go???

Jim call up Chris at SpeedDemon and run through with him what you want. If you need any help of course let me know :D

Intel/Jim:

Thanks for the info buddy! :smash: These budget strokers are looking very interesting and exciting to me! :D

Can't wait till i free up some $ to move full steam ahead on this. My 4000yank prothruster and 3.73s go in today, Vararam in a couple of weeks, and the only missing link is my stroker engine making 600 crank ponies.:D Won't be long, but will never come soon enough!:D
