Default Fuel Filter 2001

Hi all, at what intervals should the rear mounted fuel filter be changed for a 01 C5? I don't see anything specified in the owner's manual. Thanks.

That's because there IS no published interval by GM. It's an "as needed" sort of thing.

It has a fairly large capacity, as fuel filters go, and I'm comfortable with a
50 to 60K interval myself. Btw, since the filter also incorporates your fuel pressure regulator built inside it, when you change the filter you also automatically get a new fuel pressure regulator. A "two-for".

Ok, I see; That's why the new filter is over $100.00.

Whoa! Do not buy from a dealer or other high priced retail outlet. Buy online at Rock Auto, Amazon, Ebay or even at NAPA (they have it in Wix, which is the company making them for ACDelco now anyways)

If you're going to replace it yourself and need it, I can give a current Rock Auto 5% discount code. Btw, the Wix part # is: 33737

The regular price at RA is $32.79, and that's before the 5% discount.

Oh wow. I did not get to check so I bought the freaking ACDelco thing for $95. Would have been great to get it from Rock but was trying to change it while I had the fuel system depressurized. I certainly keep that in my storage bank for next time. Thanks all.

Ironically, guess who's now making the C5 fuel filters for ACD? Clue: It starts with a "W".

Anyways, you're good to go for now.

I do mine every 50k. I get them from Rock Auto, and like others use Wix if not AC Delco.

I changed mine at 36K miles when I noticed a fuel smell when I filled the fuel tank(s) to the top. Took care of the problem. It's kind of an awkward reach to it, but shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour. Be sure to release fuel pressure first at the Schrader valve on the engine so you don't spray fuel all over yourself. And, you'll probably need the special disconnect tool. Good instructions and pics are provided here
in the forum or msg me.

I have 23,000 miles on my C-5. However, I think the ethanol that the refineries are blending in, is attacking the rubber seals on the fuel filter. I changed my fuel filter when the car was 3 years old, in 2004, "just because", and then had to change it again in 2012, when the seals started seeping fuel.....
