I have a rattle in my drivers door when the window is down. Anyone have a step by step instructions to pull the panel? Any idea what it could be?
Thanks
I haven't eliminated my rattle yet, but I believe the main source is a rubber bushing that isolates the window regulator mount and the adjustment screw at the front bottom regulator mount. After your remove the panel, pull the speaker enclosure and you can see this area. The rubber bushing may be in bottom of the door. When I tried to put the bushing back in it tore. I bet a piece of rubber hose would do the trick. Curious to hear what you find.

Thanks. I will give you a holler when I take a gander.
Here is another thread that has nice pics of what I mentioned...I am going to tear mine back open this weekend and replace this rubber bushing mentioned.

This was the cause of my door rattle and the Window Tip In Adjustment I tried previously did not correct.
The rubber bushing at the bottom of the front regulator where it mounts to the door had moved up to the top of attachment bolt allowing the regulator to move around or "rattle" against the bolt when closing the door. I believe it was enough movement to allow the top of the glass to rattle against the metal center of the regulator pulley at the top of the door. The rattle sound has a "metal on glass" tone.
I have read that some folks find the rubber bushing rolling around in the door.
Here's a photo taken with the rubber busing removed (taken through the front speaker opening:
Here's a shot of the bushing that slides up on bolt and allows the regulator to move around (some have found this rolling around in the bottom of the door):
And here is my "Sandford and Son" temporary fix...(hose clamp and tubing to keep the bushing from sliding up and off the bolt)
I removed the door panel and speaker enclosure. Attached a hose clamp to the top of the bottom regulator bushing where the bolt flares out in four spots.

Would you say this fix would be for the sound of glass on metal when the window is down and you close the door? When I close either door on my 2003 convertible, it sounds like the glass is going to break. With the window up, it's tight. I do not hear a rattle when I'm driving.

Exactly that sound...I thought for sure I was going to be cleaning up glass bits if I shut the door with the window down until I found the rubber bushing out of place.
Remove door panel and speaker to inspect and repair. Probably should have some plastic door panel retaining pins on hand to replace any that break. The plastic panel removal kit at Harbor Freight (4 or 5 dollars) has a wide blade tool to help gently pull the panel off.
Thanks Tim, so this rubber bushing simply sits on the stud? It does not go through the bracket and isolate the stud from the bracket? So what causes the rattle? Is it the stud slapping the bracket when the door is closed?
I saw other pictures of that stud and it appeared that the bushing kept the stud in alignment. When the bushing fell off, the stud tilted?
Thanks, Frank

I believe the bushing is supposed to go through bracket as you wrote. It appears the top of the stud is "mushroomed" to keep the bushing in place and isolating the regulator bracket from the stud and keeping the bottom of the regulator from bouncing around. My bushing was torn slightly and I bet that happened as it rode up and over the top of the "mushroomed" stud and then allowing the regulator bracket to move around. I think the glass on metal is occuring higher up the regulator bracket, than these photos show. It was a metal on glass sound.
I even put a felt on top that you can see from the top of the door (with the door panel off) because I thought that was the place where glass was hitting, but that was not it. I put the tubing on stud and secured with the hose clamp and all is well (a couple of months now). I will make it look pretty if and when I have to pull the door panel off again.
The stud is held in place by the screw in the bottom of the door (behind the rubber plug).
I have this same very annoying problem that's been driving me #BONKERS on my drivers side door of my C5 Z06 when closing the door with the window down. The passenger side doesn't do it at all.

Thanks for sharing this info!!!
Passenger side is fine on my car as well and I had not "solved" this issue when I had the door panel off on that side for speaker replacement so I didn't look at this area.
Fixing the "little things" makes a big difference! I finally have my shifter adjusted where it works as good as I think a C5 can, and hope to solve the driver seat issues next.
Let's us know if you have success with your clunky, glass smashing door!!
I'm bummed. As you can see the bushing is in place but the doors on both sides sound like a glass bang party. Now I have to figure out why closing the doors sounds like a cheap junker.
