Default climate control question

Hi,
I have a 97 with the auto climate control. It seems to work just fine but when I turn the temp dial for the passenger side I do not see any temp displayed showing what I am setting it at. The drivers side does change and show me the temp when I turn that dial. Is this how this is suppose to work? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Just got the car a few months ago and learning all the details.

Thank you,
Joe

There is no independent temp display for the passenger. When I got my car I thought the same as you until I looked at the owners manual. Here is what the passenger has:

Passenger Temperature Offset
The PASSENGER **** changes the temperature on the
passenger’s side of the vehicle. When the **** is in the
12 o’clock position, the passenger’s temperature is the
same as the driver’s. Turn the **** clockwise for warmer
air on the passenger’s side, counterclockwise for cooler air.
If the driver-set temperature is set at 60F (16C) or
90F (32C), turning the passenger **** has no effect
because the system is locked at a maximum setting.

Thank you for the reply. That is good. At least it is working like it should.

Yeah, when I first figured it out I felt a little stupid and pleased at the same time. Happy always outweighs stupid in my math.

You need to download the owners manual or READ the one you have. You will be amazed at some of the information in that little book.

I currently own a 1997 C5, I recently had the climate control go out. I took the unit and had it repaired. When I got it back I put it in and still the climate control unit does not light up and no air is available. Any Ideas on what I need to check next?? I replaced my battery 2 months ago and I recently had the ignition cleaned and rebuilt to resolve that issue. Thank you in advance.

For Max,

Pull your codes, there may be a clue there.

By no air, do you mean that there is NO air from any register, warm cool or otherwise? If so, check passenger side foot well fuses 18 and 27- HVAC controls, fuse 51- Blower Motor. In the engine compartment check fuse 24- Air Conditioning, and Micro Relay 34- Air Conditioner and clutch.

Your Owner's Manual has diagrams and locations of fuses and relays in the back.
