Hi, I gonna replace the rear disc pads on my '98 vert. I've tried a google search and can't seem to find detailed instructions with pictures! I have replaced pads on other cars but never a vette! My rotors are fine! And I've read some people heat the caliper bolt heads to make them easier to remove and other people say to heat the end of the bolts (I sure wish I knew which and had pictures).
Thankx in advance for all your help! Gary
If your doing pads only then it's the small bolts and are not torqued that tight. No heat is needed. Others are probably talking about the caliper bracket bolts. You will see it once you remove the tire.
Chris
I didn't bother watching it, so can't comment on its quality, but replacing paads on a C5 couldn't be easier, even without detailed instructions with pics and video.
Thankx for the info so far....
How hard is it to adjust the emergency brake, since I almost back there anyway? (I've never had a working eb).
Thx again, gary-

The parking brake is cable-activated and consists of separate shoes and a drum inside the rear rotor. You might check to see if that cable has become disconnected. If not, Chris is correct; you'll need to pull the caliper mounting brackets to remove the rotor/drum to access the shoes.
Well, the side with the noise squeaker was easy!!! But the RR wasn't, I couldn't get the cylinder compressed the last 1/16", so I pounded the caliper back in place, replaced the screws etc and took it for a ride to break-in the pads, but there is noise coming from the rr, so I guess I'll take it apart tomorrow or Sunday. Any suggestions as to why I couldn't compress the cylinder completely? Or what I did wrong?
Thankx in advance, gary-
Well, I guess I'll take the rr apart again and see if I can compress the cylinder completely, if not, I guess I'll put the old pads back on (this side has a little life left in 'em). But I really hoped someone could tell me what I did wrong or why the cylinder wouldn't compress completely!!! Oh well!!! Thx to all that replied!!!
Saw what I did wrong! Don't laugh (oh, go ahead, it is kinda funny), I had put the back-side pad in backwards, so the metal was rubbing on the rotor. I was in too big a hurry!
But thx for all your help, non-master mechanic gary-
Easiest brakes I've ever replaced!!!
