I have a 99 with 127,000 miles, none abusive driving ,on my way home this particular day,my oil pressure suddenly drop to zero, stopped pulled over to the side of the road to listen for a rattle.none heard, continued to proceed toward home about 40 miles, still no rattling or other noises, oil pressure still at zero.the next day I went out to see if I could diagnois the problem, crank the car up.oil pressure goes up maxed out then drops to zero, still no noise, changed oil pump, timing chain and gears, and sending unit ,oil pressure still at zero.help me please:
Get a mechanical gauge and test it. There have been many cases of poor quality sending units out there. The other possibility is that when you replaced the oil pump you crushed the o-ring and it is not priming the oil pump.
Lots of stories here about the sensor lasting a day or less, especially is it's OVER-TORQUED (15 ft/lbs I believe is the spec). Hard to believe anyone would go through all the hassle of a new pump WITHOUT actually checking the pressure with a mechanical gauge.
