Mine went dim yesterday to where I can almost not see anything. I had to bring it in to the dealer today for another issue and had them look at the problem.
They said it was an A/C Control Head (I think I got the name correct). To replace the unit with labor and tax they quoted $475.00. Mine will stay dim for a while, no warranty left!
it is the lcd display that has gone bad . Mine did the same thing . I have the dual zone control $475 sounds like a total ripoff though . If I remember right I priced it just to make sure and it was about $200 new from dealer . Only takes about 20 minutes to swap , remove center console like doing radio swap and it is 4 screws holding it in . good luck
They're not out of the line at the dealer, but it's really too expensive to justify. I thought they were over $600 new, but you can pick up a used one for about $100 used and put it in yourself...watch ebay
Had the same thing happen in my 99. A/C display virtually unreadable. Covered by warranty, though. However, I recently had another weird A/C related event. My ext. temerature was displaying at 71 degrees (even though it was about 95 here in the Crescent City!). Anyway, the thermometer then ticked up about 1 degree/second until it hit 101 and then ticked back down.
Bought the new sensor for $16 and swapped it myself. Good as new and an easy fix. :D
I am having the same problem right now. It goes into the dealer on Monday for a bunch of warranty work (mostly small stuff) including this A/C problem.
