Default 2003 Shock options

I have the 2003 50th Anniversary addition with the suspension select switch (touring/sport).. It appears that the shocks have given up the ghost as it rides like a lumber wagon compared to my 99 vette.

Is there a way to tell if they are bad ..short of leakage from the shocks? There is no difference in ride from either switch selection.

I stopped at the Gm Dealer to get cost and part numbers and was a bit surprised to say the least, front shocks #19302787 my cost $842.66/ea, rear #19302789(right) and 19302788(left) are $657.23/ea.

What other options could or should I look at...or do i just bit the bullet ?

any advise would be appreciated.

C6 Zo6 shocks & Z51 sway bars from GMpartshouse. Very reasonable prices and the ride is awesome.

I have the same year and had the same F55 option. The way I was able to tell they were bad was Tour felt like the car was "floating". Sport made the suspension feel hard/jarring on bumps.

The shocks mentioned above are a good choice. I opted to put on Pfadt coilovers. Ride height and damping settings are independent.

Hope that helps.

True dat!!! Check to see if the dealer removed the shock stuffers intended only for shipping. Here's a picture of two removed after 50,000 that should have been removed before delivery.

I went with Bilstein Sports, and had the F55 deleted.

you can turn off the adjustable suspension with a tech 2

cheap route is c6z shocks from a place like gm parts direct

but, those shocks are designed for a little more spring rate

if i had the plush adjustable option i would be more inclined to match it up with something like a koni FSD to preserve that cush ride

Gene said the C6Z shocks were on backorder with no estimate of a ship date.
I bought a members 2004 Z06 shocks that he had pulled at 1000 miles when he put something else on his car.

I agree completely with Corvette77. I also changed (on my 03 50th Anniv. convertible) to the Bilstein Sports, and had the F55 removed from the "system", after I found one of the shocks leaking, and a good film on the other 3 at 30K miles.

Note that I always previously used the "sport" mode on the F55, and I frankly can't tell the difference, so I am pleased with the change over. I will never purchase another GM vehicle with the F55, after getting very high quotes to repair it.

hope you got a screaming deal. shocks are an age replacement item just as much as mileage. the seals get hard over time and can leak

as for gm parts. your local dealer is often of of the best ways to buy parts. print out a few net prices and many local dealers will price match. a couple in my area have no problem with it

Hello everybody,
With 44000 miles on my 03 Anniversary edition, I have two leaking front shocks. Are there any long range problems with deleting the RPO 55/45 from the computer? I never noticed much difference in either mode with the MSRC even when the car was new. I don't take it to the track and never will, so I don't see a need for the insanely expensive MSRC replacements. Just wondering if it will cause any future problems.
Special thanks to 8VETTE7 for posting the procedure to delete the option, I'm going to the stealership today to ask if they can/will delete it for me.
