At first I thought they were the transmission cooling lines, but my parts manual shows them to be connected at the upper right side of the transmission. The fittings in the picture: where are they connecting?

My FSM says that the location of the lines are model dependent, With that said if they are the cooling lines here is my response:

If those are the transmission fluid cooling lines. They go to the radiator and back. The rear portions are solid up to the middle of the car. At that point there is a union and that is where the front section goes to the radiator. There is a flexible portion in the two front lines near the radiator.

Putting in a hose section is OK. It just needs to be a material that is compatible with the ATF. I have done this type of fix on my trunk when I needed to replace a radiator. Been fine for years now. Most all automatic transmissions have a portion of the lines that is flexible and made from some of elastomer material.

If the rubber hose fix bothers you, you can get a new replacement line or a used one from a recycler (junkyards in my day). If the line starts to leak some you will see it if you park on a solid surface. It is not going to suddenly fail in my opinion.

If you aren't sure if they used the correct material here is a link to what you are looking for. Any auto parts store should be able to help.

Should go to the trans cooler in the front. Part of the rad is a trans cooler.

And by the way, BRAKE is the thing that stops the car, you should be afraid of this BREAKING
