I'm amazed at how many people only read the subject line!
That is not an area that should rust. It is coated/painted. I see rust traces on mine, but think it is just runoff from the exposed areas and it wipes away easily. I would take it to the dealer and explain your position. It is pretty much an aesthetic thing in an area that is only visible on some wheel types, so you may have trouble getting them to react.
Thanks everyone for your replies but please read the entire post and look at the pictures. The area of concern is not the contact surface, if is the painted/coated area closer to the hub!
For those of you that did understand the question thanks for your information. I will be taking it to the dealer as soon as I get my rocker rails installed so I know it will be safe for them to lift it.
I will follow up and let everyone know how they handle it.
You probably will not get any sympathy from the dealer. All the rotors will do this. The rotors are there for performance not looks. I recently replaced my worn out rotors with new OEM rotors and broke them in with about a months worth of street driving. The day I went to the track the paint was still in good shape but after the first track session the paint was gone and the rotors now rust everywhere.
Don't know whether or not a high temp paint will work. You will have to do a pretty good surface prep before you applied it to make sure it adheres to the metal well.
